In search of a new camera. Please, I need help.

So I don't have much money to work with.. And because of that, I'm looking at the Canon XH A1. I understand that the technology is a bit older now, but is it still relevant? With that in mind, what are some of the pros and cons of this camera.. As well, what are some other cams I should be looking into, with my price point in mind? Or, should I save some more cash and look into going tapeless with AVCHD? I know a lot of you are pros, and I sure would like some professional advice. I would be eternally grateful!

Browse through the boards/google. Of course XHA1 is a great camera, "Monsters" kind of awoke it from the half-dead. Personally I think HDV anom. pixels can tend to look very cinematic but at the cost of a overall soft image.

For the cost of a used XH-A1 you might be able to find a used Panasonic HMC-150 which records AVCHD directly to SD cards. ( especially with the new Panasonic AC-130/AC-160 models about to hit the market in 2 months )

I would never ever go back to using tapes...

I'm very happy with my shiny new XA10 - I'm happier with it than my 7D for filming. I got the cheap on so I could spend the $1k difference on mics and accessories. I would prefer the XF100 in hindsight (menu surfing on the XA10 takes some getting used to) but the pictures are great, and the camera is easy to operate and very flexible.
