C100: In need of Slow-motion. Options?

Step 1) Shoot 50i/60i on Camera (the higher shutter speed the better)

Step 2) Import into Premiere (no need to interpret Footage)

Step 3) Insert into 24/25/30p sequence (keep existing settings if they prompt you)

Step 4) Slow footage down to 50% (25/30p) or 40% (24p)

Step 5) Watch the magic :) (yes, no sorcery involved)

Same process for FCPX as well.
You lose horizontal resolution but it still looks pretty good. Good enough anyway.

So you don't interpret the 60i as progressive? Just drag it onto a 30p timeline and set speed to 50% and the interlaced becomes progressive? Your stuff did look amazingly good...and I don't mean that in an offensive way...I was expecting pretty bad slomo from that procedure.

Also, specifically what is the "high shutter speed" you shot at? Thanks!

Yes, I did exactly what mkind has mentioned. Well I shot on 50i so my shutter speed goes from 1/100 to 1/300 - it all depends on my lighting situation and the amount of details i would like to capture. ;) Well yeah you do miss some fields during post but... well it works and it looks cleaner than my previous DSLR 50/60p look.

Interesting. Someone should forward this thread to Canon Japan. This tells how badly people are missing native slow motion in the camera and creating workarounds. As a former business strategy consultant, this is a big gap which other companies are likely to exploit. I guess everything cannot be perfect afterall Achilles had a weakness in form of his heel. :(

Dustylense: how much horizontal resolution do you use in this process?

You lose some, but it does look much better than DSLR 720/60. I'm not using any other software or plug-in other than shooting 60i and dropping into the timeline and slowing it down.

I have not. Im on FCPX only. It works just fine. I've read other workflows but being that I don't depend on Slow-mo that much the dropping in the timeline works well. It's quick and looks better than HDSLR 720/60p so I'm good with it...

i think the workflow is actually every bit as easy as shooting 50/60 fps @ 720p. And it certainly looks leagues better than DLSR 60fps.

What I would be fascinated in seeing is C300 720p 60fps - next to - C100 1080i 60 fps. So we can see if there is much resolution difference. And if the C100 is getting a bad wrap for no reason.

Has anyone got access to both cameras that can help? Eric?

Can this same workflow work with an atomos recorder going 60i from camera and recoding 60i in the external recorder? Anyone try? I'm wondering if the higher bit rate would be a more significant leap in iQ over standard 24p/30p with an external recorder.

EDIT: just saw an example video posted on here that did just that. Looks pretty good for a camera that wasnt supposed to do 60p

Just gave this a bash. At first it looked crap but I realised that in PP CC you have to right click the clip and change the fields to display "both" before dumping it in the timeline and doing the non-wizard like process. Looks completely fine....even when not slowed down..infact I might just start shooting 50i fulltime for the option to slow down anything...Might

Am also curious to see C100 60i v C300 60p. Anybody want to try this?

60i at 1/250 seconds then twixtored to 120fps looks great. Interpolates horizontal resolution and other than particles looking a bit funny the algorithm rarely fails.

Recently shot quite a lot of footage like this and it looks good.

Have it posted anywhere?
