C100: In need of Slow-motion. Options?

Hi everyone. For those with the C100 if 60P or slowmotion is needed how are you addressing this limitation? I don't like the work around of converting 60i. Is the GH3 a really good option to pair up with the C100 or do I need to look at the FS700 now? I was hoping for any glimmer of hope at NAB but back to reality now and dealing with current models readily available. I'm not interested in the upcoming 70D which would probably have 60P as I would rather keep the resolved detail close to my C100 if I'm going to pair a cam with it. Thanks

Edit: my previous cam was the AF100 and the C100 is a great upgrade over it but need to address this limitation now.

I am converting 60i to 60p. And I haven't really had a need yet (I have done it once, but haven't done the post on it).

So the C100 doesn´t do 60 frames?

I´d rent a C300 or FS700 if you need more frames.
The FS700 will take some grading to match the (better) Canon-Log, but you get there.
If 60frames are enough then the C300 will match much easier and since it costs the same to rent and then can be used just like the C100 (lenses etc) I´d do that.

No it doesn't. Renting isn't an option for me as I'm in the event videography business. It would be too costly to rent every weekend.

I have the C100 and haven't needed to do slomotion on any projects so I haven't looked into it. I came from the AF100 as well, and while it had variable frame rates I think I only used them a few times in the 2 years I owned it. We do event work as well and I don't like the slomo look. I could see using it on a stylized commercial shoot, but not for events. This is just my style and others may vary. This looks decent http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZp3_KVPCGg

I bought a GH3. Every software option is a world of pain. Believe me, I've tried most of them and they all degrade the image to different degrees.

Squig I'm actually considering the gh3 and also a vg20/30. The slowmo shots aren't wide shots and are only used for a short segment of my videos. I may just go the fs700 route.

I was looking at a video shot on a VG20 in HD to HD projector last night. The medium/Closeup shots looked good enough. I'm just looking at it as an option.

That 1DC Twixtor clip is impressive. Twixtor is just the only software that does this.

I guess I would phrase it as the only software that does it 'well'. You can do this with AE or FCPX but, the results are not nearly as good as Twixtor. 60p is really helpful though and it is the one thing about the C100 that is making me hover over the "Buy" button. Even if a Ninja enabled this, I wouldn't worry but, this doesn't seem possible at this point.

If you are shooting with the C100 and the Ninja 2, is there a reason you couldn't record 720 60p in the Ninja, then export to Cinema Tools, reset the time base to 24p and have slow motion? I do this with the T3i all of the time, works great. What am I missing here, does the Ninja not allow 720 60p recording of the Canon's output? I don't have either, so I don't know. Ot will the Ninja 2 not record 720 60p because the C100 doesn't support it?

Just shoot 60i. You effectively get 60 1920x540 frames per second. Interpolate to 1920x1080 and you have 60p. Should still look as good as 720p60.

You can do this in After Effects or any PROPER NLE (Final Cut 7 is not one)

Maarek I have tried that to no avail on Vegas 11. I have just given up on Slow-mo option with the C100 and am waiting for the perfect opportunity to switch systems. Have upcoming jobs where Slow-motion is a requirement and will have to provide it with a camera that provides that option.

The Panasonic Lumix LX7 is a killer option for the money if you need slow motion. The 120fps @720 option is killer. I would consider such a small camera to complement a bigger setup.

Agreed.

Or the GoPro3 black edition shoots 120fps @ 720p and it is only $450!
