Impossible to tell AF100 shots from Hacked GH2 shots!

I shot and edited this video and I believe it's impossible to tell which shots are the GH2 and which are the AF100.
I was very pleased with this video and the clients were elated, flat out elated, singing my praises, but I'm sure the professionals in this forum will find fault with it.

Are the shots on the boat and some of the marina from the GH2?

Nice looking and fun video.

Nice work

I've planted them together on enough interviews, and with similar glass they're an easy match.

I'm going to guess all the high shutter speed clips are GH2.

What hack was used?

The GH2 and the AF-100 are VERY different. I actually shot a comparison between the two, but never posted it.

Really great footage man. Loved the energy and playfulness of the entire thing. Editing was very nice as well.

I would like to say however, that the majority of your footage was over exposed. Had you closed up about a stop and then slightly raised your lows/mids in post, you would have a much richer image.

In regards to the GH2 vs AF100, listen, I've owned both, used both extensivly, and unless you're ocmparing the hacked GH2 to an AF100 going through a hypershuttle or something to that nature, there is really no comparing. The amount of detail level retained by the hacked GH2 is absolutely astounding, something that the standard codec of the AF100 just can't do. That's not an opinion, that's science, just based on the bit rate alone.

But you stated that in this video it's impossible to tell between the two. I will agree with you there, but mostly due to the web compression.

I didn't pay too much attention to which clips were AF or GH2, but towards the end when you have random people singing, i would guess that's GH2. Get much more skin detail on those guys and gals.

But what is a fair test of "can't tell them apart"? I mean, I suspect that you could take very, very different classes of cameras and if all you're comparing is stuff you can see on youtube, well, you might not tell the difference. But what if you showed this on the big screen? That of course is without getting into details like the fact that different cameras will have different strengths that come out when stressed for that strength or weakness - if you are shooting a flat white board you might not see the difference between an iphone and an Alexa, but shoot footage that puts stress on the DR capabilities and all of a sudden you see vast differences. Things get extra murky when your footage is highly stylized to make it look lo-fi and gritty - it becomes hard to tell cameras apart.

That said, nice footage.

Thanks, interesting observation - yes, it was over exposed somewhat - actors arrived late on the beach, I was ready to shoot at 10am, they arrived at 11am and we started with all the sun out and sand reflecting everywhere giving that yellow tone. I also had to deal with over head sunlight and didn't want shadows on their faces, so the beach shots were over slightly exposed but I dragged these down in post. I shoot with the color saturation down, that's why it might look like this to your eye. But I used my waveforms to judge exposure, and it looks darker on my computer by the way, lighter on youtube. I've shot underexposed before when I had an HPX170 and I hate the results. I always tend to go with it easier to remove light in post than add it without getting that milky washed out look. But maybe just half a stop like you said, might work. I'll try that next time. Yes, the shots of random people were GH2 but there are still some more shots in there for the GH2.

Everything you've said it quite true and I'm aware of it, but this wasn't a test. I'm just sharing what I did with the two toys at my disposal. I'm rather reluctant to do this because people really take things the wrong way. Maybe my heading was wrong - maybe I could have said - Job done with AF100 and GH2.

Good guess, Gary Huff, but which ones are those?I shoot high shutter on the GH2 because I didn't have the ND filters that the AF100 has. The hack used was the 176/50mb. I chose the low 50mbs, 176 slows down my computer like crazy.

I'm not going to go and list them, but it's not rocket science to differentiate high shutter speed shots with those that are not.
I don't have your practiced eye, Gary. Unless I was able to see the judder or flicker, I don't know that I'd be able to tell. How are you able to tell?
