Importing P2 into Avid Adrenaline ?

What is the procedure for ingesting/capturing P2 files into AA? P2 mxf files are stored on a single layer DVD - less than a gb of footage. Should be easy, huh?
I'm a FCP fan myself and don't know AA......

First off, create a folder on a local drive, maybe something named for your project/client. Copy the files, including the entire CONTENTS folder structure, into that folder you created. You can't pull directly off an optical disc--Avid does not care for the filesystem used by data CDs and DVDs (UDF).

(Again, this is all assuming you're working with P2 folder structure)

Launch Avid. Create a bin that will store your footage, or select one that already exists.

From the File menu, select Import P2 -> Clips to Bin. Navigate to the location where you copied the MXF data. Select the folder CONTAINING the CONTENTS folder. Hit OK, and (if all goes well) your masterclips will appear in the bin you'd selected earlier.

Now, if you're planning to edit and output in one session, you're done. Avid maintains virtual links to that media. However, if you should shut down the program, and come back later, all your imported media will be listed as masterclips in the bin, but your media will be offline. You'd have to go through the Import P2 -> Clips to Bin process again. Annoying.

So, instead, select all the masterclips you just imported. Go to File -> Import P2 -> Media. This will copy the footage from your original location to your media drives (whatever is set in your Media Creation settings for Import options), and basically "register" the media with your project. The media then "belongs" to the project, and will be available later if you shutdown and restart.

Hope that helps...
