hey guys,

i recently purchased a p2 card and started shooting some footy. i dont have a p2 store or any other importing device that would import the footages. im just plannin on using the hvx as the imprting device but i am havin trouble doin it. i have it on MCR mode and i have the firewire cable connected and still, no lucin importing in FCP 6. all help will be greatly appreciated. thanks

You have to be in PC mode, not VCR. Try holding down the button for about 5 seconds, and it will go to PC mode. Then go to Log and Transfer in Final Cut Pro

Using firewire?

Install the drivers.

Start the computer.

Attach the firewire drive to the cam and computer.

Make certain the p2 card is write protected and the cam is set to firewire device mode.

Turn the cam on and make certain it is in the p2 mode.

Hold the MCR button down to get to the MCR mode

Then hold it down again for about five seconds and the screen will show Firewire Connect.

Card will mount.

Copy the card to the desktop - don't make an alias, make certain you option drag the NO NAME volume.

Drag the NN volume to the trash to eject it.

Turn off the cam; wait until it's off and then unplug the FW cable.

I might be wrong, but I don't remember ever having to install a p2 driver on my mac. Can anyone confirm this (or maybe it was installed when FCP was installed?)

I've never installed a Mac driver. I ingest into FCP directly from the camera as well as from an external HD (to which I first transfer files directly off the P2 card using a PCcard slot with my Toshiba). I've never had a problem.
