Importing P2 cards to mac pro through HVX

I just got a 8GB p2 card and I want to import it to my mac pro going through firewire and my HVX. So far the only way I can do it, in FCP, is to go to "log and capture" but that only imports in real time. Does anyone know how I can get the "import panasonic p2" viewer to recognize my footage? I've already set the PC Mode on the camera to 1394 device but it's still not showing up on my computer as a external hard drive. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Thanks!

- I'm sure this has already been discussed in the forum but after doing an extensive search I came up with nothing so if there is another forum on this just post the link and I would be very happy. -

anyone? what about getting a PCMCIA Card Drive, are there any that work for the mac pro?

Have you installed the necessary driver?
Make sure you read section of the manual thoroughly that covers this as there is a set order of plugging in and turning on the gear which if not done properly, it wont show up. Also make sure you have footage on the card.

Press the little button that switches from camera to vcr mode , hold for 2 seconds. In a few more seconds, the drive icon will pop up on your mac.
For complete instructions, see pg. 84 in the manual.

held for 2 seconds . . . problem solved. Thanks mainstreetprod and ozduc. I hate it when the answer is so simple that it's starring you in the face.

I understand the temptation to dig right in when getting a new toy (I do that myself), but there is value in cracking open the manual and reading it front-to-back, or if you get frustrated with a problem, at least consult the index. That way you would not have waited 24 hours for an answer.

Panasonic also makes a PDF version of the manual available, which I prefer to printed documentation because it is so easy to search.
