Importing in final cut pro 5

I always import my Hvx files with Final cut pro 5.1.4
since a couple of days i can't view the to import files or set in and out points anymore
the login window doesn't pop op anymore, and i can't seem to find it anywhere
It normally pops up on the right side of the sequences.
any one who has been in the same case or has an answer?

When something like this happens, I trash my fcp.plist file, and relaunch and set my preferences again.

it returns everything to a pristine state.
