C300: Import to FCPX 10.0.8 looks whacky

Shooting on C300 @ 50Mbps 1920x1080 on fw 1.8. Dumped card on hard drive, imported to FCPX 10.0.8. The image looks flickery and grainy. I then did a test with converting a clip via MPEG Streamclip to Prores and it looked fine in FCPX. When I imported to FCPX there was no option to transcode, only proxy media- unusual. Any ideas?

When you import it will ask you. Under Transcoding you will find two check boxes 1) Create optimized media 2) Create proxy media.

I invariably have the create optimized media option ticked on. FCP X will do the transcoding in the background. I never use MPEG Streamclip or anyother thing to convert to prores when such a nice facility is already existing in FCP X.

Please check your FCP X again. May be by default you would have selected the create proxy media option?

I use the FCP X 10.0.8 and C300 1080p and love the files.

Just out of curiosity- did you import directly from the CF card or from hard drive? What I'm saying is that for whatever reason, FCPX did not give me the option to optimize media- I agree that that is one of the great elements of FCPX. So I'm confused why it didn't give that option...

First I import my clips from CF to hard drive and a backup using the Canon XF utility. Then later I bring the files from hard drive to FCP X. No idea if importing from CF cards directly results in your problem, as I never import directly from CF card to FCP X.

I often import C300 files directly from CF card using FCPX import (including same type of footage as OP) without any problems. I do not see any difference in terms of quality between importing from HD or CF card.

Just noticed that my issue exists only within FCPX display. When I exported a file or uploaded to Vimeo the problem did not show up, however it's very unnerving to work on a project with this odd flickering- it looks like some sort of glitch in FCPX handling XF codec- but I checked that I had latest Canon drivers etc.

switch playback to "high quality" and the flicker goes away. When you use "better performance" the image will flicker. there is nothing wrong going on....

Thanks! That was totally freaking me out. I migrated from the F3 to the C300 recently and hadn't experienced that issue before.
