Import problem with FCP

Hello,

I´m having problems with importing P2 contents to Final Cut Pro (5.1.4).

I have copied the contents folder from a FireStore to an external harddrive. Unfortunately I did not copy the lastclip.txt, but I have understood that it is not needed for FCP P2 import.
When I try to preview the clips in the P2 Import window, the preview window is just black.
If I try to add a clip to the queue, there is a red '!' icon in the status field and when I put the mouse pointer over it it says "Error: Unknown".

I tried to view the clips on a Windows machine with P2 Viewer installed and there everything seems OK.

The clips are really important to me since I worked a lot to get them filmed, so I would be extremely greatful if someone could help me out with this problem.

Thanks,
Andreas

You need the lastclip.txt

If I'm not mistaken, P2 viewer seems to have a way to regenerate it? You may have to use a PC intermediate in this or some other way tyo get the files back to FCP this time; in the future, keep the lastclip.txt...

I finally got the problem solved!
I think that the problem was with the file-system on my external hard drive. It was formatted as Mac OS Extended (Case-Sensitive) and when I moved it to the internal hard drive that was Mac OS Extended (Journaled) it worked right away. I do not think that FCP needs the LASTCLIP.TXT, but if someone needs to make this file manually, here is a link to a tutorial.

Thank you very much for the replies!

That formating has nothing to do with it, I can assure you. OS Exteneded is OS Extended. "Journaled" will make no difference in copying data. All Journaled does is keep a database for Spotlight to find things for you faster when you do a search. It has nothing to do with the actual format of the drive.

FCP will import "sometimes" without the LASTCLIP.TXT file, but you really do want to have it there anyway, cause FCP does not "officially" ignore that flie. "Offically" FCP does need that file.

I think the problem was your external drive, not the format. What type of drive was it?
