Import issues. P2 Log issues. corrupt files?

I'm still having import issues. I'm using FCP 5.1.4 I have P2Log Pro and I have tried to repair clips and it's not working. The reason I think the clips need repair is because I have been able to use P2 Log and export a Quicktime on some clips. I have a longer clip (9 min) that will not export from P2 log. It stops and just says encountered error. So I have tried about 10 times to repair clip. It spits out another mxf file but when I preview that in P2 Log it plays faster. The audio is the same but the video is fast. Yes I have tried many frame rates and nothing works.

I have also tried to import through the P2 viewer window in FCP. I get the red stop sign and the viewer is just black where the video should play. I can see the thumbnail.

I know a lot of these issues seem to be on Macs. I have also read that import issues can be fixed with updates- I have everything current.

Right now I'm convinced the clip is corrupt. So does anyone have a better solution for repairing clips? Maybe I'm not doing something right in P2 Log Pro? Someone mentioned going to a PC.... could I just plug in my external drive and access the file say in P2 Log? Really frustrated any help would be awesome right now.
Thanks for reading

I know this is something I should address to P2 log but I'm just wondering if anyone has encountered the same issues. I tried to export a Quicktime and I got:

P2 Log ERROR
"An error occurred while exporting /Applications/P2 Log Pro/temp/0002DM to QuickTime."

Anyone?

gibby... what is your problem? I have a big one now... and I don't own P2 log yet, but I would buy it if it worked to solve my problem. WHen I import some files into FCP, I can see the clips in the window.. even play them, but when I import them the files stick and I get a missing data error file. Everything else looks good. WOud p2 log fix the problems or something else? Really frustrating now... I just need to get the clips to work...

Did you use the p2store?

you might try reverting to a previous version of FCP. i've gotten calls after several jobs from people who were experiencing the latter with about 30% of the clips, only to find that on my system (5.0.4) the same clips imported just fine.

my understanding based on these experiences is that this is a FCP issue, not a P2 / acquisition issue.

That might be a very good call. I would have to go back to 5.1 though... Maybe that might be the issue indeed.... You know come to think of it... On 5.1.2 didn't such hissues..

Thanks. I'll give it a try.

you can try opening the problem clip/volume in P2 Log Pro or HD Log demos. I think the HD Log demo allows a few more attempts to repair than the Pro demo. Anyways, if that doesn't work, drop the Imagine Products guys an email. They're usually pretty helpful.

P2 repair

I'm having the same issue gibby1...

Using P2 Log Pro to convert P2 files to Quicktimes has been my backup in case a clip will not repair. By and large, I've been able to repair most clips. However, I'm running into your problem of creating QTs from larger files. The file I'm trying to export is a spanned file of 12 min and 12 sec in length. I get to about 93% and it quits. Smaller files seem to export to QTs just fine. I just sent an email to P2 Log Pro support to see if they can help.

My error...

P2 Export Error:
An error occured while exporting/applications/P2 Log Pro/temp/000QJ to Quicktime.

I report back when I hear from them.

I called Imagine Products and spoke with a technician there. It sounds like the issue of exporting to Quicktimes in P2 Log Pro of long clips is probably related to not copy protecting the card (switching the small tab on the backside of the card) before dropping the data onto the portable hard drive (or your computer). Apparently Macs like to write some kind of signature onto the end of the card's download which causes the long QTs to crap out at the tail end of their export while using P2 Log Pro. I usually get to about 93% on the long clips that span the whole card and then the QT export quits. So, hopefully copy protecting the card will help. Can anyone concur with this? I wish I didn't have to get to the point of having to repair clips, but at least there's an option.

I don't know if that's definitely the issue or not, but Apple recommends always write-protecting the card before a Mac takes a look at it, and Panasonic recommends the same. So now that Imagine is also recommending it, definitely definitely try it.

I would never put a P2 card in a Mac, or let a Mac access a P2 card, unless it was write-protected. On Windows it's not an issue, but the Mac does register and write files to any newly-mounted volume, and all three companies are pointing to that as the culprit.
