Image looking jagged and pixelated

Re: Image looking jagged and pixelated

Hi.

The only thing I can think of other than the options that have been posted involve displaying the video as square pixels in your editor.

I haven't used Vegas, but in FCP, there's an option in the "monitor" window of FCP to either display the video as square pixels or to do a pixel aspect ratio correction (for the 0.9 aspect ratio NTSC pixels). Anyway, if you check(or uncheck, can't remember which) this option, it will eliminate the jaggies. There should be a similar option in Vegas (I assume).

Incidentally, the jaggies are just an artifact of the NTSC video being displayed on a square-pixel device (the monitor). If you were to print to DVD and watch on a TV they wouldn't be there.

Not 100% sure if this is the problem but give it a try and let us know if it works!

Re: Image looking jagged and pixelated

Hi,

I have the similar problem but I get it even when I play it off my deck a Panasonic GS70D. It was shot with a DVX100A at 24pA and 60i (It was to test). I'm shooting some martial arts and the edges of the person becomes VERY jagged/choppy. It's not constant on the footage but very similar to the samples that daylan posted. What are some things I can do to remove that? Please let me know if I should post it on a new topic. I don't mean to hijack the post but it's a very similar problem. Thank you.

Re: Image looking jagged and pixelated

I have had this same problem. I was shooting 30p with detail set to thin. A little disappointing since I just got the camera, and this happened on my first shoot. It seems to be more pronounced on slightly diagonal lines.

Anyone know of a solution, or even what the problem is? Is it just that it's shot on thin mode? I know that that can make things look bad on interlaced TV, but some of these look bad right off the camera.

???

Have you been playing with vertical detail @ interlaced mode

I did this (-7 v detail @ 50i) , and looked at the material on a monitor after the shoot, and the "motion" was just terrible, and looked "pixelated"

Re: Image looking jagged and pixelated

I just recorded a promotional video at 30P, thin and it looks good, sure in some camera/subject movements some line get jagged, but it is the interlaced monitor, progressive is very good, even interlaced is fine (all the camera movements were smooth), if you want I can post some shots or videos (or my scene settings)

Re: Image looking jagged and pixelated

I'm encountering the same phenomenon on my DVX100AE(PAL) but I can see these issues on the LCD display before capturing, rendering ...Unfortunately I cant run the camera straight into a monitor(crt)at the moment to see if its as bad but I'm assuming(the mother of disaster)that it wont be when its interlaced as opposed to progressive.
