Can the A1 receive firmware updates?
It's a good question. There is a Firmware option in System Setup menu which suggests it's possible, but I haven't seen anything about actual procedure.
Maybe it will be announced when/if Canon releases new version. My guess is the camera detects new firmware on SD card during startup and then allows to install it through typical procedure, similar to digital cameras for example.

Apparently the XL-H1 can do firmware updates through the SD card, infact Canon supplied a free SD card for an update not long ago (Or so I read on another forum somewhere). Based on the setting in the A1 menu I suspect it will work the same.
So yes I guess it is possible...likely, I'm not so sure on.
