C200: iMac Pro editing machine for C200

Hello guys, Apple has now released the new iMac Pro.
I think to buy it, and just I want to know if someone more expert (based also about your configurations) than me thinks about this hardware configuration, and if it's good to edit the C200's 4K RAWlight :

- 3.0GHz 10-core Intel Xeon W processor, Turbo Boost up to 4.5GHz
- 128GB 2666MHz DDR4 ECC memory
- 4TB SSD
- Radeon Pro Vega 64 with 16GB of HBM2 memory

p.s. : I will use Premiere and Da Vinci Resolve, not Final cut.

That is exactly what I ordered earlier today. Reviewers have said that it is adequate and I'm not pressed for time enough to pay for the additional cores. Also, for ingle threaded apps, the hight number of cores have a lower turbo boost.

I would have settled for 64GB RAM and put that $800 into an eGPU with another Vega 64 for a dual GPU setup—if you really will use Resolve.

You won't notice going from 64GB to 128GB, but another gfx could close to double your Resolve performance. It's around the same about of money. Ballparkish.

I would go for 1TB SSD and save a couple grand. You will be better off with external drives than 4TB internal. Not sure if more than 64GB of Ram is going to give you much more performance either. As Andree mentioned a eGPU on this would be insane compared to 64GB more RAM

Will 2 more cores (8 vs 10) be noticeable in Premiere or Resolve alone? Or only when lets say exporting from R while editing in P at the same time?
When I was forced to move to the 4core iMac coming from a 6core MacPro the higher clocked/lower cored iMac made editing much snappier...
@Danilo Why do you want to choose the 10core over the 8core?

I've read some articles about best hardware configuration advised by Apple for editors, they send machine to editors with this configuration. Now I've changed my mind, and considering to buy 14 cores version (available in February) for more future proof editing machine, I plan to use it almost for 4/5 years, so it's better with more cores.

What are you going to be doing with the computer? You say "editing" but that's really a broad category. The 14 core iMac Pro does have more cores but each core is slower. Applications that can't take advantage of all the cores will actually be slower on the 14 core iMac Pro than the 10 core model.

Pretty interesting but a model with 2.5GHz 14-core Intel Xeon W processor, Turbo Boost up to 4.3GHz should be good with Premiere and Da Vinci (I don't use Final Cut but probably it will be more fast with the 10 cores model), I've read this article : (https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/a...U-Performance-Skylake-X-vs-Threadripper-1063/) and I think it would be a good compromise despite the clock performance will be less on iMac Pro.

I'm not sure it is possible to mix eGPU with the internal one. And with eGPU setup you have to use external monitor which makes everything much more expensive, if you want to have something like 5k Retina...
