I'm treading water

I'm making the shift from shooting 16mm to shooting HD with the HVX 200. I just purchased the camera along with 2 four gig cards and a P2 store. I have a new 233 GHz MacBook Pro. I've never been involved in the editing process before, so I am technically at a loss when it comes to using editing programs. I'm working on a project that will be roughly 15 minutes long. I will probably shoot five to seven hours of footage total. A very small percentage of those shots will be usable. I will be on the road for most of the time while filming this project. Someone else will be doing the final edit on this project. I'll need to roughly edit the footage for them, so they will only be seeing the A grade shots. My questions are these/
Do I need to buy Final Cut Pro in Order to work with and view clips from P2 store or can I use final cut Express? Price difference of about $800
What sort and size of external Hard drives do I need for this project?

Any Advice would be greatly appreciated

Chances are that your other editor already has FCP.
I don't know if a FCE project will translate to FCP.
Plus I don't think FCE has the P2 import.
Get the latest version of Final Cut Studio.
You will not be doing yourself a favor by
saving a lousy $800 bucks,

And I hope FCE NEVER does have P2 compatibility. :)

HDD I would Suggest Externals. I have 3 terabytes in 250gig HDD, I only use Maxtor and G-Drives.( my recent addition) Maxtor uses A/B drives, and G-Drive ONLY uses A drives. I find that 250 is perfect. DONT go over. Unless you RAID to create a back up.

The new Final Cut 5.1.2 has the capability of a P2 viewer. I had to send my discs in , and am waiting to get the cross grade. who knows how long it will take.

I use 500 plug gig hard drives not raided, just as stand alone drives, I have no idea why you'd not use larger drives just as is.

I sent my disc in on 11/15 and received an e-mail stating it shipped on 11/22. (The day before Thanksgiving.) I received it yesterday. :)
