I'm not dead, just frustrated (new grabs)

Bag of Douche
Ok, so as some of you may know, I was finished with this video but the harddrive died 60% into the final render. Long story short, I lost about 1/5th of my work (that 1/5th happens to be hundreds of frames of frame by frame rotoing... unfortunately) so I had these Images ready to go to post along with the video but I'm afraid I don't have a complete cut to show... so instead I thought I'd post some grabs today.

enjoy

monte, the grabs look great bro. the vid looked amazing, as I've said in the past............ I actually have it saved as one of my favorite vids done with the DVX

looks interesting, nice aesthetic... do post again if you get a cut done...

you know you can generally recover any data from most drive failures... costs a few hundred dollars but in this case it probably would be worth it. I had to do it once on a laptop.

Sweet

Very nice, Monte. I'm a big sucker for this kind of a look. Some of the best grabs I've seen posted. Is this the actual look of the short or were grabs touched up in Photoshop for referencing later on? Also, do you live out in the midwest? The location images remind me of Michigan (home state). I really miss shooting there as people loved to let me shoot at their locations for free...now in Los Angeles and having to pay through the nose for decent locations. Sucks...

HVX200, you will soon be mine!!!!!!!!

they look great, very sharp. i think the first one is my favorite...and i like the clouds with the power lines.

Can you please give some spec/info on how u achieve that look. I want that look for my film, I want my film to look as dark and creepy like The Ring

monte, these shots look really GREAT! that really blows about your hard drive man. same thing happened to me a few years ago, guess it happens to everybody once. at least now they have those one-touch 300/400GB drives to do backups, might want to look into one of those.

at any rate PLEASE keep me/us posted on this project, i want to see it in motion!

Great looking screens. Looks like not only do you create stylistic shots - but you're consistent with your look...very cool. Amazing how a few screens can convey so much, I for one am excited to see more!

Coffee - Thanks I'll try and keep up the good work

Doug - I was quoted 2000+ dollars to have the drive recovered, since I was working in uncompressed there was quite a bit of shizzle to get apparently. (45 gigs)

PANA-MAN -I do live in the midwest, Minnesota to be precise. These are straight out of the editor, and have not been touched by photoshop. All the locations were last minute, literally the day of shooting we had to find some quick, I sort of knew some of them or what I wanted but we just drove around that day... which isn't the best use of time but it was quite the hectic shoot and I just finished it with 3 hours to spare.

Bluespider - Is Matt McDermitt the next Monte? His stuff is the **** tho isn't it. I'd sex him up if I knew him in person.

Lyon - I will keep you all posted, no worries brother

The color correction really took the most time, even more than rotoing, getting the right look is sooo difficult. Because it'll look good at the time but then like 2 days later you go, "What was I thinking, GOD I'm such a stupid cracker!" then you go back and change it and so on and so forth.

monte, did you do alot of alteration in-camera, or did you keep your camera settings at aat a specific setting and do all other adjustments post? also, what CC prog did you use?

Monte,

Have you tried any recovery programs yet? I've had a few HD's "die" on me and was able to recover over 95% of the files. I just used Norton Utilities, or Norton Systemworks. It takes awhile for Norton to do it's thing and you have to occasionally keep track of its progress, but heck in the end it's worth it.

$2000? That's ridiculous!

The place I went to quoted me $400-500 to pull all data from a 60GB drive. Of course it turned out the drive was actually pretty okay, and they did the job for around $300. I guess it must depend where you're located, I was in DC at the time where there was a major market for that sort of thing.

i had a drive die on me recently and norton couldnt get anything off. I had all my Foley files on it that are linked to a movie im working on so i had to get them back. I tried every recovery program out there and nothing worked. Then i decided to go and format the drive to see if it was just partition problems. I then found this program called R-studio that recovers from an accidental format and decided to try that. It was able to recover about 95% of everything after that can copy it over to another drive. Whew.

Awesome work Monte...you sure could get a good gig as a colorist. What tool were you using for your CC.

I've never seen the midwest look so good...I mean bad.
