I'm not dead, just frustrated (new grabs)

I don't know, all the files are huge in that they're uncompressed so ya know, generally like 2 minutes is about a 5 gig file. I got that so that's the first 2 minutes of the video secured. They were also able to get a few other files so I still have a good portion of the second part the problem is alot of the files are missing so I have to re-edit alot of it cus the pacing is off now.

The problem is that they're just so gi-normous that lots of times itll get like 30% of the way through then it just says "file does not exist" and doesn't transfer any of it.

-----

I kept all camera settings fairly normal, the problem was this was my first time ever touching the DVX so I made A HUGE AMOUNT of mistakes. Like I shot one night, then the next morning I was shooting and I noticed the little switch turned to like F6 or something, so it was shooting at 60i with master ped at 0. Eeek!

That sucked because I've found it's alot ALOT ALOT easier to color correct when the master ped is lower, just because if you bump the contrast it wont **** up the whole frame but it will be more controlled. So that took a long time on the parts that were shot like that (half the outdoor stuff on the street)

----

I used Vegas for all CC.

The problem with the shoot was that just the other week I had been in santa monica tagging along on a "pro multi million dollar commercial shoot" (ooo ahhh) and I hadn't gotten a wink of sleep while I was there for various reasons. Then suddenly the weekend we were going to shoot it got all cold and rainy (which was what I wanted because it fit the song)

However, I was sooo sick and I'm amazed at how well this turned out... imagine if I wasn't some stupid 16 year old kid, who was sick, and who had never touched the dvx before how much better it could have turned out. Well whatever, them's the breaks I suppose.

No, I mean that I just do lots of compositing and lots of re-rendering that I was working in uncompressed... I start out with DV on the tape but I try not to render it to DV again if I can help it...

So instead of rendering the new CCed clip to DV codec and then rendering it again when i comp it with another clip and rendering again etc...

I just render it with no codec (or "uncompressed") to avoid degradation.

I probably wouldn't do this again... just because it is SO difficult and slow to work with. Working in uncompressed on my PC ... well it just wasn't having it.

That's why I've got my eyes set on a 64 bit XEON which apparently should help with stuff like that if I'm not mistaken...

Absolutely awesome pics man! Very moody and very cool. The shot of the pile of leaves (or whatever that is) with an ominous figure out of focus in the background is probably my favorite, but they're all good man! Nice!!

Did you capture uncompressed or you did that later on. I mean, you capture dv then export to uncompressed.
Is that what you did?

Those grabs look amazing.

hey monte... I love the grabs, did you ever have a trailer for this posted? I'd love to see it. When I see grabs that good it really makes me want to see them in motion! Sorry about your whole hard drive thing... Tell me this, what brand was that hard drive so I'll know what to stay away from. If theres anything us dvxusers can help you with let us know... mabye we can start something like "I helped monte hurry up and finish his film fund" So you can get that hard-drive repaired or buy some new equipment and re-capture.... (hopefully you at least have the raw footage right?)
