Well, i missed giving my film in on time to a contest last week because of not being able to capture my footage on my pc....

HDV is driving me crazy....adobe premiere pro cs3 wont capture any footage at all....i can control the camera's play and rewind buttons in premiere but when i play it there is no footage playing in my preview screen even tho its playing in my camera.
HDVsplit does capture footage, but the m2t files that it makes have lines going through the footage along with pink blocks at the top of the video....wtf

i have been using adobe premire and final cut for a few years now, but i am new to using the HDV.....im not sure what to do at this point.....nothing is working for me. i already missed a film contest, (which means i wasted 5 hours shooting video)....

my system

dell dimension 9200
cor duo 1.8 gig
1 gig ram

adobe premiere pro cs3 (i am not sure of this is a trial version, i just entered in a key that came with another version i have installed in my laptop to a trail version...but that should make it a full version then right??)

** also....i have acess to final cut pro at school.....should i expect any problems capturing the footage on there?
i dont care about doing the pulldown....

THANKS GUYS

m2t is so-called "transport" MPEG standart. It is used to store video on tapes. After you saved (captured) m2t file from the camcorder to the PC it has to be rendered as a "system" MPEG. Not sure about Adobe but in Vegas there is way to switch from transport to system. The bottom line correct codec has to be chosen for final rendering.

HDVsplit does capture footage, but the m2t files that it makes have lines going through the footage along with pink blocks at the top of the video....

This problem happens sometimes in some computers for some reason but it should go away once you render your video. As long as you can do the editing with Adobe, there won't be any difference capturing by adobe or HDVsplit. If you want to also capture with adobe you may need to uninstall and reinstall it and maybe more than once.

Adobe has Canon presets to download from their we site that hande 24f just as they have supported Panny 24p. I know you didn't say whether you shot in 24f mode but I thought I would offer this thought. 60i should work without the presets.

I use cineform Neo to convert my M2t files with Vegas with excellent results. They make a product called Aspect HD for use with Adobe. It's not cheap but if you do a lot of editing you can amortize the expense rather quickly.

scannon, yes i indeed shot all my footage in cinemode (24p).....in fact i never shoot in any mode other than cinemode. i never downloaded any plugins from adobe for canon presets....maybe thats why i cant capture in premiere?????
i did have the trial version of cineform, it worked good but version is finished. i would buy aspect in a second if it didnt cost 500$....

yeah dude, i have acess to a mac g5 at school fully equipped with a final cut pro, and a mini dv deck. should i be able to capture 24p cinemode footage into final cut without issues? i dont care about doing the pulldown.

THANKS ALOT FOR THE HELP GUYS.....almost there! :)

As long as you don't remove the pulldown the video is not different than 60i. It has nothing to do with your capture problem since you can only capture 60i no matter what. Some NLEs such as Final cut Express doesn't have 24p time line so you cannot import, edit or do anything with 24p video. But you can still use your 24p video withing the 60i signal. As for final cut pro, it supports 24p.

Capturing to FCP will work but remember that after you capture you should remove the 24p pulldown in Compressor before editing. Trying to do it afterwards will be messy.

But if I understand correctly, you entered a key from a trial version to a retail version of Premiere? Or do I have it backwards? In any case, I would think that a demo would remain a demo even if you used a retail version key on it. Also, if you have a retail copy of Premiere, why don't you just install that on the other computer? The trial version installation could be messing things up perhaps?

yeah, i have trail version in which i entered the key...

i will try it on the mac with FCP this week....finally.

how do i use the compressor?
