VaricamLT: I'm back

Hi everyone, I've been away from DVXuser for a few months as I've transitioned into a new position. I'm now the Cinema Product Manager for Panasonic North America. Basically I'm in charge of all things VariCam, along with DVX200 as well. I cover all three models of Varicam (Pure, 35, and LT), although I'm guessing that the LT will be the most discussed here on DVXuser.

I will try to be a resource to all on the forum on the subject, just as I was at my previous position. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

This is great news Mitch, welcome back!

I'll start with my first question, I've asked about this here before but no-one has replied:
There's a "system check" button on the side of the camera, when I press it on my Varicam LT absolutely nothing happens (as far as I can see). Is this button not activated or is there something wrong with my camera? I don't consider it a big deal that it doesn't work, but on the other hand it is nice to know that the unit is fully functional.

Congratulations on the move! Coming from the FS7 and using the 7Q throughout my time with Sony and now switching to the Varicam LT. I appreciate your willingness to talk with the community here while I had my FS7 and be so open with us.

I can only see good things for us having you at the helm as cinema product manager. I love my Varicam LT and can't wait to see what else is in store for it! Welcome aboard!

Good news for you and Panny. Since Jan retired there has been almost no official presence at DVX user. Does your purview include the PX270?

OMG don't touch it!!

I dunno; I'll ask and get right back to you.

No, I don't deal with that camera.

Of course y'all have Barry here as well. There's nothing quite like having the guy who literally wrote the book.

I hope Mitch can help those of us who use the 270 as well. The functionality and size of the 270 is perfect in certain applications. I was a very early adopter having owned the 200, 200A, 250 and now the 270, all filling the need for a great small form camera. I do, however, find the 270 noisier than it should be, especially in caucasian skin tones, and have some theories including one where maybe the camera performs as it should in PAL, but is noisy in NTSC?!?

I'm glad to help where I can -- but Mitch is an official voice, he is actually inside the company -- and man, have we missed having an active voice who participates here with us! Glad to have you in that position!

As for the PX270, I didn't do a book on that camera, I only used one briefly, so unfortunately I'm not able to help much with it.

I don't need a book, I need less noise in the skin tones at any all settings, ha!

This is for doing a System Status Check without pulling your eye from the viewfinder. If the Remote Panel is not connected, pushing the System Check button will show a representation of what is normally seen on the Remote Panel through the viewfinder. It's not hardware dependent -- any monitor plugges into the VF SDI port will see this display.

Hey Mitch!

We've tweeted back and forth a little (@Stealing_shots).
Good to see you on here.

Congratulations on the new gig!

Of course... I have never used it without the Remote Panel. I tried it now and it works.

Thank you!
