If we had a full HD HDMI out we could use...

If I'm reading it right the HDMI Cinedek version only does 1080 50/60i.

And just to add another to the list lof hdmi recorders lets not forget the convergent design nanoflash.

but unfortunately we dont....come on canon, how hard could it be? I am considering getting the Nano Flash for my ex1 but if it worked on the 7d I would have no choice but to pull the trigger.

...isn't there full HDMI out when you aren't recording with the camera?

So theoretically, you could record to this device without hitting record on the SLR.

Edit: Oh yeah...i guess there's no way to get rid of the display overlays, right?

That's the exact same solution I mentioned earlier in the week. The response was that you can't get rid of the video overlays. I know that's true for the 5Dll but has anyone tried it with the 7D?

I'm sorry, but spending $5000 to get portable, uncompressed HDMI recording capability from a sub $2000 camera? Just use the freakin' AVCHD codec and stop worrying so much about video compression, especially at this level. I understand it also serves as a monitor, but you have to draw a line at some point, and if you were going to spend $5000 on a portable recorder/monitor, you more than likely wouldn't be using an hdslr camera.

I second that .... even if somehow the HMDI out is putting out 1080p, it's not going to be RAW, it's still going to have the picture curve or 'look' baked in... so what's the point? You're just creating more data for almost no gain...

The best thing to hope for is that at some point someone will make a sub-$2K RAW codec camera... that we then grade to our heart's content...

I know!!! I mean a $1200 DSLR rig from RedRock, $5000 for this thing, ext audio recorder...? WTF?
You guys might wanna check out this thing they call a "Video Camera"

A mojor selling point of vDSLRs is something small, cheap, inconspicuous.... did I miss a meeting?

Looks like your line is drawn. However, I don't know if you realize how unheard of/amazing an S35 10 bit 4:2:2 image for under $10k would be.

I'm not exactly the target market for it either, but that could be a helpful/viable option for some.

I acutally built a portable uncompressed HDMI recorder for about $700 (it's a back pack rig) and would love to use it with the 7D.
