Idiotic things that only happens in films

Sorry to get all geeky...but I thought it was clear in Avatar that the earth spirit Eywa (who was literally real), was controlling the animals and telling them who to fight.

You right Ray, you right. (my bad)

It still happens in a lot of other movies... ironically (considering your avatar) the monkeys in Crystal Skull, and others. (avatar was a bad example)

Mark... it's "4"... right?

Jesus, sometimes this board amazes me. Do you want me to post all the times I got a parking spot right in front of a building? Or the times that someone who gets shot might actually leave a loaded gun on the ground? yes, all of these things CAN happen and sometimes do. But I suppose there are those out there who need the point of this thread explained to them.

This thread is about these things being used as a plot convenience, and happening to a degree of reliability at just the right moment to push the plot forward, which would never happen in real life. EVERYTHING in this thread PROBABLY HAS HAPPENED AT SOME POINT IN HISTORY. But it's goofy and funny when it happens very conveniently for the protagonist.

Would you like me to continue on and explain 2 + 2 to you? Or are you good on that one?
Uhm no, because I only posted that classic little bit of viral vid from way back to give you and the rest of the people here a chuckle, and not to somehow debate you or prove you wrong or anything. It didn't have anything to do with the discussion.

But thanks for that little outburst and the positive energy it gave the thread. I think I speak for everyone when I say it's something we could all use.

when lounging in bed the sheet goes up to the woman's shoulders and only up to the mans waist. - Where do they get these

a car will only start on the third try if being pursued by a villain

all computer activities, hacking, copying files, routing satellites is all done by speed typing. Mouse not required.

Car chases only happen on days when the streets are over run with fruit vendors

Horror movie killers often pursue victims with a slow walk and somehow always catch them.

Haha I relized this while watching toy story 3 with my kids. But how many times do you see the good guys almost fall off the top of a train or off the top of a truck but magically catch themselves. Haha same thing with fallin off cliffs. They'll slide until they're off but somehow get the pick caught right as the go over or get a grip right on he edge.

For some particular reason the good guy can cause millions in property damage and risk innumerable cops' lives, but, as long as he gets the girl all is forgiven

Guards in any war movie always walk mindlessly back and forth and are so hard of hearing they never hear anyone supposedly sneaking up from behind or look in that direction EVER.
Someone with a gun is hiding in the backseat, but the person getting into the driver's seat doesn't see them when they get into the car

How about when the bad guy walks into a room or elevator and never sees the guy hanging just 1 foot above them. It seems like the bad guys perspective only goes as far as the audiences, and even then...

Rousing standing ovations always being with a few beats of silence, followed by one person clapping very slowly, with more and more people gradually joining in the slow applause, which then gradually escalates into a full-blown standing ovation.

In Miami, victims don't scream. And Miami has the most serial killers per capita in the Western world.

The "generic film devices" are starting to get really funny to me... I can't believe people can still come up with new ones like this... where I read it and start laughing 'cause it's true.

Not just that quote... but the quotes like this throughout this thread are making this my favorite thread ever.

Did we cover the standard, 1 man verses an army of bad guys.. be it pirates, ninjas, soldiers, or mutant monsters... instead of all the bad guys firing and kicking the good guys ass at once, they form a 'line' and only one bad guy fights the good guy at a time while the rest kind of just 'stand around' until all the bad guys are wiped out.
