Idiotic things that only happens in films

Yeah. They make little test kits that you put a very small amount of the suspected substance in and break the vial inside. It reacts and changes color if certain narcotics are present.

"Your Honor, I then ingested some of the controlled substance" wouldn't go over very well in court.
..."no sir...I didn't inhale"

Someone with a gun is hiding in the backseat, but the person getting into the driver's seat doesn't see them when they get into the car

Horror films:

White girl hears weird sounds in the corridor geuss what she walks towards it and doesnt get killed its a pigeon of sorts !

Black guy hears weirds sounds in the corridor geuss what he starts acting like scared white girl and gets killed !

DM_Rider... LOL! AWESOME! This whole thread is great.

Perfect 10 dumps handsome rich guy to be with dorky poor loser.

When the star of a movie walks past a tv thats on, there is always a news story that pertains to the plot on the screen.

One for the sound people:
Any time someone walks up to a podium the mic will always feedback for a moment.

Another one relevant to the Dark Knight...People can vanish noiselessly after a character has looked away for a few seconds, nowhere to be seen.

3. Almost every punch to face of the nameless baddies is a knock out blow.

Another one I hate related to this : good guy (lets call him 'Jack Bauer' for discussion purposes) disables bad guy with a sleeper/choke hold, and presto - lights out in 2.3 seconds ..... Come on!

Well that is very possible, and is caused by cutting off the blood to the brain

not quite, complete bilateral carotid occlusion requires much longer than a few for loss of consciousess

the only caveat to that is if the person was hypoxemic to begin with (maybe from a prolonged struggle before)

the other possibility is vasal-vagal reaction - but even that wouldn't cause LOC in seconds, and would even be slower than complete bilateral carotid occlusion

Well, it's not literally 2 seconds, but it is a matter of seconds, as opposed to minutes like an airway choke hold.

Didn't any of you guys see the girl fight on Tosh.0? Two chicks (appear about senior-junior in high school) get in a fight on a playground... well... after some rapid-fire unceremonious slap-fest... suddenly the girl who DIDN'T start it... gets the other girl in a choke-out submission hold... headlock... arched back... well... at that point I'd say it took less then 4 seconds before that other chick was OUT COLD. She dropped like a sack of potatoes. This one was NOT fake (she slid across the cement ON her FACE). Choke-hold KO in "seconds"... proven.

Chick fight! yeah post the URL :)

But seriously, they have done controlled human tests in the past (back in the day when ethics were less of an issue... LOL ) and the average was more like 10-15 seconds for a LVNR hold. Not like 2-3 seconds that you see in the movies. 10-15 seconds on a willing subject. An ex-marine super soldier won't be lying still for the good guy to choke him . As for your girl example... hey it's a chick... :)

Another stupid one is when good guy fights off a dozen+ bad guys, but them come at him 1 or 2 at a time. WTF? Did they all flunk Villan school ?

PDR... I'll admit that this isn't a controlled human test, but here you go:

http://www.comedycentral.com/tosh.0/2010/01/13/in-this-weeks-show-12/

Click the first vid... I counted one-one-thousand, etc. and stopped counting when the video pauses for commentary... and it still seems that the choke-out took place in less then 6 seconds... but whatever... even though we're blasting a great thread OT... I had to answer the "prove it" request for a url. For ALL the fake vids people post on here and talk about, as I roll my eyes thinking, "you guys can't tell that's FAKE?"... no chick pushes her face across a slab of cement like this. Again... choked out... in "seconds". Sorry to contradict all that science :)

Not saying you can vulcan grip an unexpected victim out in 2-3 seconds... but a sleeper hold in 6 or so seconds? There, you just saw it.
