Hey, guys - a different line of thinking here, suited to a non-techie's issues...this is a $20k investment, I don't want to be worrying about dropping and breaking it all the time, no sir! Here are some thoughts...
1. UV Filter Included
These are vital for protecting lenses from *the elements*. They also supposedly have a picture usage. Either way, it would be great to get a few included with the lens.
2. Attached or automatic lens cap
Detachable lens caps get lost. A lot. And then lenses get damaged. That is sad. Avoid this problem.
3. Automatic Hard Drive Spin-Down
The iPods do this - supposedly helps protect the data when they're dropped. Wouldn't it be great if the RED-Drive did the same?
4. Buttons that don't get worn down
Exterior buttons are nice. But they're not so nice after a year or two when you can't read the little logos that tell you what they do anymore. Engraving the functions on the buttons would solve this problem. Also, don't use cheap mooshy buttons - they fall out and get lost. RED is the last camera we'll ever need, right?
5. Some kind of LCD Shield
Plastic, maybe? Especially if the LCD is 'detachable'.
There are millions of design choices like this. I say a few rules of thumb should always apply.
1. Nothing that can fall off and get lost.
2. Nothing that sticks out and will break off
3. Nothing that is made super-cheap
4. Nothing that wears down.
That's technology built to last.
