"I Understand You"

This was a good looking music video that forgot to show the band. I never felt like I was watching a story...well, that's not entirely true. I felt like I was watching the story part of a music video.

It had some great imagery and I liked the song.

Dug the song! Liked it quite a bit actually. Loved the cinematography as well. The varied shots and framing really sucked me in.

For some reason I thought her outfit didn't fit the job, might just be me though.

Never bring a knife to a gunfight! Funny stuff. :)

Beautiful man
truly

loved the editing. thought it was hilarious when the tables were turned and i like that the chase ended when the song did. kinda like they got cut off by the song before she could really do something
couple questions

what kind of liquor store has a parking structure?
guy that owns a sweet ride like that is shanking rather than shooting?
he should have captured her and tied her up for a while.......hahahaha

the shots made me go

*sploosh*
hehehe

loved the film man
anything you guys make is great
cant wait to see the next project
peace and love.

It has been said before but bears repeating, this is a great song! I really liked your style and imagery. Also agree with above, her dress was so wrong for the job... but who cares it looked great on her!

Had to think but pretty much got the concept first run. Was strangely compelled to be glued to it as it all happened, in a good way.

couple questions

1.what kind of liquor store has a parking structure?
2.guy that owns a sweet ride like that is shanking rather than shooting?
3.he should have captured her and tied her up for a while.......hahahaha

couple answers:

1.The one we shot at. It's in Hollywood. Nick Cage supposedly has a suite upstairs. 'nuff said.

2.Who says he's interested in robbing her? Knives intimidate... and cut through clothes. Plus, you can hold it in one hand while you, um, do other things with the other.

3.Probably intended to, but she outgunned him ;)

My favorite music videos never cut to the band. My opinion is, if you want to see the band playing, go to one of their shows.

This was a cool piece. That shot of the bridge is wicked cool and so is the vette racing around... I seriously love corvettes. I don't see enough of them out here in LA. They were everywhere in Chicago and that'd be one of the few sports cars I'd buy if I wasn't a filmmaker who spends all his money on movies :)

Cool, fun song coupled with some interesting shots and storytelling! This looks like it was a lot of fun to make! Thanks for sharing.

Amazing visual storytelling, I loved that opening shot. The composition of shots and edited was awesome. The song was well written and mixed but I preferred watching the film the second time without the soundtrack.

The only thing that truly stuck out to me at first was the music. I thought that this film could have been something entirely different (and more intriguing) with atmospheric sounds instead of the music. Might just be a personal thing, but this type of poppy music really irks me sometimes. Nice melodies in it and it's well constructed, but not my taste in any way.

I felt that this film was shot beautifully. The direction of the camera felt very right most of the time and the perspective from s/rs situations didn't make any of the typical mistakes that some make without notice. The colors were rendered nice, desaturated and punched up contrast helped.

For some reason, her wardrobe stuck out to me like a sore thumb. Not that it looked bad, but for the environment she's in, this is the sort of scenario that men of power (judges, police officers, etc.) use as a way to turn a female victim of rape into the person at fault for "taunting" the man or "leading him on." There's of course tons of evidence and research I could quote to prove my point, but know that I'm not saying this was intentional on your part, but that it is simply an archetypal situation to create based on stereotypes, which, as a student of sociology, really grabs my attention.

Anyway, I love the intention and effort, and I do think that most of the film LOOKS fantastic! You did a great job pulling good images out of the HVX. The film just didn't work for me. I'll go back and watch it again though as I'm giving every film a second viewing.

I agree with so many others - the song was great (I'm even listening to it a second time as I write this review).

Your cinematography is wonderful. The exterior shots are amazing. Was there an adapter used for this shoot and if so, which one?

I also really liked the editing and the pacing of this. I was totally intrigued, especially by the ending. I'm glad it didn't end in violence.

Very well done.

p.s. I just listened to it a third time. Now the song is stuck in my head and I'm singing along with it. :)

p.p.s. Is the song (or album) available for purchase?

No adaptors used on those HVXs. Don't need 'em ;)
The CD isn't out yet. But I'm sure Tristan would be happy to send out purchasing info when it becomes available.

LOVED it. loved it. Loving it. Great great great. Sweet looking film, and the editing rocks and the music is popping and it's all great and I wish she worked in my liquor store. Cool a sneaky chase scene comes then it just leaves me hanging off a...

:)

Like everyone else, I love the song and it feels like a MTV video... and yeah, where do I find this kind of liquor store that has a girl that wears that kind of dress who runs the place? LOL She looks good in the dress though... and maybe i'm slow but what's with the end... i don't get it... so does she know the guy?

Thanks for all the comments, everybody!

To clarify: Yes, this is a music video. I hadn't seen a music video done for one of these fests before and thought it made sense to do one. And yes, it was a bit forced: We were going to be shooting a music video anyway, so when we realized that it would fit with LossFest, we decided to crank out a quick edit and submit. However, I do believe the video does fit the theme quite well...
I don't want to explain every aspect of the story and all that we were going for, but the crux of the story and its Loss relation is this:
Some dude (who, as evidenced by his Z06, is not interested solely in the money) goes into a liquor store with a switchblade. He is chased out by a girl with a shotgun. He loses. Easy as that.
From the beginning, considering concepts for LossFest, I wanted to steer far away from the obvious takes on "Loss," and so while the "win/lose" take on Loss isn't exactly brimming with brilliant originality, I think it's different enough and that's what we went with (and are still happy with).

One other thing I'll point out since some people have not been happy with the wardrobe choice for the female lead: We wanted a very obvious black/white, darkness/light, masked/unveiled, evil/innocent visual cue for the two characters. So... I understand the qualms with a convenience store clerk wearing a white dress, but we're happy with our choice.

I thought this was a good story - I didn't have any problem with the guy having a knife, as it meant to me that he was not interested in the money so much as he was the girl. But the song just didn't fit for me, nor did the title. I was quite into the opening sequence and I thought it set a great tone, but the song just feels completely out of place.

Technically, everything was great, the performances were good - it felt just right to me, except for the soundtrack, which felt so wrong. I actually really like the song a lot, just not in this context.

Ohhhh....a music video.
here i was with my whole critique, but i must throw it out the window.

i WAS going to say, like a few others, that diagetic sound would've really put me into the scene much more. i was hanging on the outside, listening to the music, watching the pretty pictures, instead of worrying about this woman, and then hoping that she'd catch him and and blow him away after the chase, only to realize...uh oh, she knows this cat.

BUT! alas, this is a music video, and a pretty good one.
thanks

Surprise! Surprise! A music video. I didn't expect that. Its really beautiful to watch. I didn't care much for the song. It felt like a Euro group like Aha did it during the late 80s... early 90s. Not everyone's taste. Sorry. The story is clear and well told without any dialogue or sync sound effects. Excellent work.
