I think I've quit....

Hey Congrats Jason!

keep it up!

and make sure you hang with the right crowd too! support is important.

Everyone congratulate me, because I've never smoked a cigarette in my entire life.

I've been smoke free for 23 years.

I highly doubt that, you may not have directly smoked, but statistically speaking you would have had 'second and third hand smoke' plus traces of toxic air pollutants.

I went 5 days, wrecked my van and caused 10 grand worth of damage. fell of the wagon for a few days... but happily am back on it...

3 days 6 hours at the moment without a cig

later,
Jason

Glad youre back on, i almost fell off today. But i was good. im replacing the urge with beer and Gyros. :)

Sorry to hear about the Van....

i'm takin up all the seats on the wagon, and all the cup holders (if ya know what i mean)...man i need to quit. all things must pass. paul mccartney wrote a song about it.

George Harrison released a triple album entitled "All Things Must Pass" with a song of the same title. Incidentally, he died of lung cancer.

If you fall off again look into the non smoking pill Chantix, everyone I know says it worked very well for them.

I would like to congratulate you on trying to quit. If you should stumble along the way, I hope you or others will not be too hard on you. I mean, there is more to a person than his or her victories and falls, isn't there? Try to stay positive. Best wishes to you.

Hm...I must have some kind of sage advice here to give you. I started smoking when I was 12, two packs a day. They put me in the mental home for a while in 8th grade so there was a break then. Started smoking again freshman year and didn't "stop" until I was about 24 (but by "stop" I mean that I didn't smoke during the week, only on the weekends when I would go drink with friends who smoke). At about 26 I started smoking 2 packs per day again, also started drinking coffee (which I had never done before).

And today, I am completely coffee (eh, sometimes on a sunday) and smoke free for three years now.

If I had to look back and point to a specific cause to my inability to quit earlier, I would say it was the people I was around. Growing up all of my friends and girlfriends smoked (until the girlfriend I had when I was not smoking during the week in my twenties), and my girl now -- I actually quit smoking as a birthday present to her.

I have one friend, my best friend, who is a life-long smoker, and I can see and hang out with him now that I'm a few years past being an addict, past being a slave to a drug, right?

The best thing to do when quitting a drug is to not hang out where those drugs are being used and to not hang around other drug users. Don't believe the commonplace talk regarding smokes and liquor. Liquor is a poison (that's why we feel "drunk" from it, because a low dose of poison is being introduced into our system). And cigarettes have been proven to be more addictive than heroin.

They used to say you were manly and confident if you smoked cigarettes, that's why so many kids (like me) started doing it. Because the Goodfellas and Greasers were cool, IMO. But in fact a man is defined by who and what he does not allow to control him. A real man is not an addict, not a slave. A real man is stronger than addiction.

So, for me, I saw my woman not liking cigarette smoke around her (though she never asked me to quit, just didn't stand next to me if I was smoking), so I manned up and quit. My best friend who still smokes has a daughter. I tell him whenever the mood strikes me that he's a pussy for putting his addiction over his kid.

So, yeah -- stay strong, man up. Only pussies are addicts. Only lame punk-asses NEED anything except their own two hands and a big stick, right?

Carry on, sir! Carry on! ;)

I have smoked for 20 years, I'm 39. About a pack a day. I quit cold turkey 7 years ago for 8 months and am kicking myself for starting up again.

My dad went cold turkey too. Basically the doctor told him it would take years off his life. He wanted to be there for us (me and my mom) and he just stopped and never started up again.

My dad did the same. Quit, cold turkey. smoked for 25 years then on a dare just stopped. and never picked one up again. Thats will.

for sure... wish i could say i'm all cool and did it cold turkey and what not... but whatever works for the individual is the right way...

frame of mind is a big thing....

Anyways... i'm on day 5... another 4 hours will be 5 days again I think. Starting to lose count... which is a good thing.

Still sucks when I get up from my computer and pull my lighter out of my pocket to go out and smoke a cig and then remember half way there.... i don't have any and I don't do that anymore :)

later,
jason
