I think I got the 7D the cheapest in London

Hey all,

Just thought I would let all the UK members know the strategy I used to get the cheapest prices in London for my 7D and the equipment I got with it.

I bought my camera from McDonalds Technical on Oxford Street. I called up and spoke to the manager and explained that I had seen a price on the internet that I wondered if he could match. The lowest price now is (£1,354.24 - http://www.digitalrev.com/en/canon-...dy-7432.html?gclid=CMTxwuP10J0CFYwA4wodyQ7crQ ) but when I got it the price was £1,439.

I went in with print outs of the prices of all the equipment I wanted from the cheapest sources on the net. This cut all the **** out of the negotiation as they immediately dropped to the lowest they would be prepared to go. Most of the time they can get quite close. In one case they knocked £200 off a camera lens on the spot.

By the end I reckon I saved about £500 using this technique. I bought the camera, a lens and a memory card!

Good luck,

I did something similar here in Canada. I went to my local FutureShop (it's like Best Buy here in Canada) and pointed out that since our dollar is almost at par with the American dollar the difference in price for the camera in Canada is just wrong.

They asked me for the websites I was using to get the American prices so I gave them Adorama and B&H. They talked with their manager and ended up selling me the Canon 7D with 18-135mm lens, plus a Canon 50mm 1.8 lens (I know... I know... it's cheap and plasticy... but it's what I can afford right now and the reviews from people were very positive), plus a 4GB UDMA card (I plan on stocking up with cards while in NYC next week).

If I hadn't challenged them to alter their price the cost would have been $3,208.05 after taxes here in Canada. They sold it all to me for $2,700 after taxes, saving me $500.

I don't know how much it helped but I told them I was going to be in NYC in two weeks (which was true) and could buy it at the above mentioned stores, but would much rather spend my money locally.

It still would have been cheaper for me to get the Canon 7D with kits lens and other stuff in NYC at B&H or Adorama, but the problem was neither had the kit, and wouldn't have for when I arrived. This would mean I would have to get the body plus some sort of zoom lens... and when you check their price for the kit lens I got... the deal FutureShop gave me was a couple hundred dollars cheaper.

So... if you're in Canada and want a Canon 7D... go to your local FutureShop and haggle with them... they can certainly move on the price.

I'm in the UK and got my 7d + Canon 18-135mm IS lens for £1,600. It was off E-Bay through Digital Rev. I figure that's somewhere between £500-£700 off retail.
