I saw a 16gig P2 card today

Is it commonplace to release a product before actually announcing it?

I couldn't find anything about the 16 on Panasonic's Japanese site. Just the 4 and the 8.

Just because one has been seen in the wild doesn't mean it's released -- it certainly isn't available for purchase.

I built a time machine. Got this from the future at Wal-mart for $9.99. They were in the bargain bin.

haha, I'd love to get a hold of one of those. Wouldn't have to worry about shooting time ever again. And at a GB a minute that would give you over 3,000 hours. I think by the time cards come out of that size we'll be seeing much bigger resolution than 1080.

Abaddon is still going to have a problem with it. Over 8300 hours is still not enough to fulfill his needs. You better go back and get another one for him.

Well I just shot for 2 hours continuous with 4 8gb cards, dumping them to a laptop.
Let's see you do that with tape. It's not possible as you'd have to stop to change tape. I think the longest DVCPro HD tape is about 40 minutes.

..all that AND be done with capturing, which takes at least an extra 2 hours for 2 hours of tape.

Even longer, as you'd have to set in & out points, rewind tapes, change tapes etc.
Five minutes after the show was over, I had all the footage on a drive ready to go.:dankk2:

They were most definitely giving us the free cards because of the 16G coming out soon. I read on an other thread a couple of weeks ago that Panni was thinking about releasing by Summer, but I can't remember well. If anyone knows better please post here. I personally won't be investing on more P2 for a while.

I'll bet a case of beer to anyone that:

The 16G will come in at the original price of the 8G, the 8G will drop to the original price of the 4G and the 4G will:
a. be discontinued
b. about 3/4 of what it is currently going for

but since I am waaaay broke right now (for good reasons :Drogar-Love(DBG): ) I am only fake betting (I ain't giving up my beer! )

Is it a card can store 200 Titles ( Words ) in Bytes ? for HVX's 200 now ...but for for futue

I really hope the P2 ccards can store uncompressed if the capacity goes up from their 960x720 CCDs............100mb/s is not enough as a MASTER in 720P though.

Did you shoot 1080?

Also, lugging around a laptop is the last thing I wanna do.

128GB would be +/- two hours of 1080p and +/- five hours of 720pN.

That would be great. Unfortunately it looks like 128GB cards are years away.

And by the time you'll have 128G card, you'll have intra-avc camera, so you can double the times:)

how longs it gonna be before someone claims ( or actually succeeds ) to make a hack P2 card out of pcmcia cards? on the bay one could make A LOT of $.
