I.S. on Tripod (Canon 70-200 f2.8)??

I was wondering if anyone of you with the Canon 70-200 I.S. have tried it on a tripod with the I.S. on?

I've heard from many sources that I.S. does not make a difference on a Tripod.

However, my friend just got the new V2 of the Canon 70-200 with I.S. (the super expensive one) That lens is pretty shaky even on a Tripod because it's so big. We didn't test it really because he got a bad copy (it was blurry) so he was pissed.

We noticed that with the I.S. on, there were no micro jitters while on the tripod. With the I.S. off, the micro jitters seemed worse when we tapped the lens body with our finger.

But like I said, we didn't really test it much because he got a bad copy and wanted to return it ASAP.

So anyone with the 70-200 I.S., with the I.S. on or off, does it make a difference while on the Tripod in terms of a smooth shot?

If a camera is steady on a good tripod I honestly do not see how it can shake? I.S. or Not normally if your camera/lens is on a supported tripod I don't see any reason why their would be jitters?

I guess we need someone with more experience here to post, because I would like to know as well

I've used it with IS on, but it was on a cheaper tripod (701HDV w/ 190 sticks). I haven't had an opportunity to use it with IS on my newer, more reobust tripod..so I think ultimately it depends on the tripod you have accessible to you.

It is a rather large lens (especially the 2.8 IS), so rent and test to ensure that it'll work for you if you're deciding between IS or non-IS. Did he pick up a new copy of the lens?
