Hi Everyone,
I have questions about your upgrade.
-Firstly can you tell me what firmware you now have since upgrading your 160 ?
-What obvious things did you notice when you got your camera back?
-Did you have the activate option now in your menu screen?
-How much did you end up paying for the upgrade?
-where did you get the upgrade done?

I have done the upgrade with some problems and did not want to cause a stir or any negative vibe toward Panasonic.
I have been sending private messages to a few members but now feel like I have pushed the limits of favors from people by contacting them privately.
As I said I do not want to seem like I am down on Panasonic service in fact quite the opposite.
So far all my contacts with Panasonic has been courteous and each technician has expressed a solid interest in helping me resolve my queries.

It looks like I will be sending my camera back to get things sorted but in the meantime just wanted to canvas members to see what I should have expected.
Thank you if you can answer all or any of my questions
Regards
Tony

Hi Tony

I'll have to check my firmware version.
The biggest thing I noticed was the turbozoom feature, works like the camera should have initially.
I have the Activate option
The upgrade was 130 for labour 300 in parts + tax, the work was done by Panasonic in LA

As I had a warranty issue to deal with ( a faulty power switch ), it was a good time to send it in and get the upgrade done.

Cheers

John

I received my 160 back with firmware 2.05. Each time I tried to install firmware 3.05 I would get a "check card" message. I tried many different SD cards with the firmware update and tried re-downloading the firmware also walked through the process with a technician from Panasonic.
I did not have the Activate option on my menu page.
I have spoken to 3 Panasonic technicians and 2 have told me that there is no firmware 2.05. One tech even checked back through all the Panasonic firmware bulletins and could only find 2.01 prior to the current 3.05.
One message I received rightly pointed out that if mine reads 2.05 it must exist.
When I received my camera back , I did not notice a difference in the focus speed ( turbo focus ) but did notice the focus no longer drifts in Auto.
I know I will be sending the camera back but would just like to have knowledge of as many other experiences that I could use as a benchmark.
If you get a chance I would appreciate your firmware info
thank you John for your response.

Hi Tony

Sorry for the delay in checking. My firmware after getting my camera back from Panansonic LA is 3.05-00.0.00

Best of the season.

I seem to recall a message I sent to you on firmware that referenced 2,05, That was a typo, should have been 3.05. Sorry.

Hi Tony
I had the upgrade done to my 160 in the UK about 8 months ago and it came back with the 2.05 firmware. Having come to this thread and discovering that there was a later firmware, I managed to update mine to 3.05 without any problems.

Thanks Michael
That at least confirms there is a 2.05 firmware.
How recently did you do the 3.05 upgrade?
Could you tell me how you did the upgrade.
thanks
Tony

I did the upgrade a couple of days ago.

To do the upgrade I unziped the file that I downloaded from the Panasonic website onto my hardrive, which created a folder called PRIVATE. I then copied the folder to a Sandisk Extreme SD card. Note: The camera needs to be connected via the mains adapter whilst you carry out the update. After inserting the card into one of the available SD slots, you have to press both the “EXEC” and “STOP” (joystick down) and push MENU button. You then scroll down the menu until you come to UPDATE menu. Selecting this should start the update. The “CAMERA” mode indicator light should flash for a few minutes and then stay lit once the update has been complete.

Hope this is of help.

Michael

Thanks Michael.
that pretty well describes how I tried to update mine.
I will try again just in case the panasonic web site file has been changed since I tried but I am suspecting I will be sending the camera back.
Thanks for your feedback
Happy New Year
Tony
