I need to rename my company.

Ok so I finally did this.
I've been putting it off for too long, and I had a whole bunch of other changes in the company that needed registering so I just did everything at the same time.

I ended up sending in two name suggestions.

The first suggestion was Republican Pictures.
Republican, as in The Republic of Jämtland, which is an independence movement here. The Jämtland region in Sweden has a very strong sense of local patriotism. We have our own language with different dialects that's a mix of old Swedish, old Norwegian as well as unique words. We have our own flag, a national anthem everyone sings in school on graduation when they're kids, and our own president even though he doesn't wield any political power.
There's also a nice ring to "Republican Pictures Presents".
I guess to Americans that name would mean something totally different, but I don't think it would be in a way that hurt my business.

The second suggestion I sent in was Jämtfilm.

Most companies here in town that don't really know what colors to use for the logo, or they want to connect locally, use blue, white and green, the colors of the Jämtland flag.
I figure with these names I'll fit in, plus it's nice to have a connection to where I'm from.

We'll see which one I end up getting, but unless there's another Republican Pictures somewhere that produce film, it'll be that.

There's Republic Pictures, might be confusingly similar.
Yeah...

Well, either way the decision is not entirely up to me.
I send in a request with up to three name suggestions to the Swedish Companies Registration Office, they check it out for me, and whichever they decide is what will be registered.

We'll see what they say. I'm fine with Jämtfilm although it does sound a bit like a small local ad agency or something.

Def Film Jamt, or just "FilmJamt"... Swede Jamt? (just trying to Sweden the Pot)
It wouldn't work gramatically.

We have companies here named Jämtkraft, Jämtflytt, Jämtmaskin, Jämtkross, Jämtgott, Jämthalka, Jämtljud, Jämtglass, Jämtmotor, Jämtdialog, Jämtgravyr...
(these are from the two first pages of the online yellowpages).

Jämtfilm would fit right in.

JEM FILMS as n J.E.M films , no ?
or
JEMANA FILMS
Jawa and Java are one in the same its a matter of spelling , incase this wasnt mentioned before :)

I'd do a kind of synonym of jamt - i hop. Same thing. Only change it a bit to allihop. So, ALLIHOP Films. 'Cause you know, you're "all in it together" when you make films :)

Well it's not "Jämt" as in "all together" or "all the time". It's "Jämt" as in "Jämtland", which comes from the people who live here ("Jämtar") and the etymology of that is the germanic word "emat", which means "hard working".

No-budget-production presents for-never-project :D
Speak for yourself there, dude. I've made my feature debut, and not on a no-budget. Have you? :)

Well so I finally got the letter in the mail today from the Companies Registration Office.

They wouldn't let me use Republican Pictures AB (probably because it's taken or something, they never state their reason for choosing) so I got my second choice instead.

The new official name for my company is Jämtfilm AB.
I'm cool with that. I'll use Jämtland's colors (green, white, blue) for the logo. It'll be great.

Whew, I was nervous there for a moment. Very happy that you got Jämtfilm. I think it sounds great.
