I was just minding my business at the Panasonic booth and POOF there she was in all her bright colored splendor! lol. Lovely woman. She took out a considerable amount of her time to discuss the Panasonic AF100 and 100A with me and my upcoming projects. I let her know I would be taking mine to the grave with me...lol. Pretty random I suppose but great people deserve a little acknowledgement. HAPPY SHOOTING ALL!

are they going to show any AF100A footage at all? or are they going to give out some AF100A to some one for review it? why dont they post some "10bit" to show what it is?

I saw some footage from AF100 on one of the monitor stations and it was amazing. I spent some time at the Red and Black Magic booths in the south hall as well. I am telling you guys...I am just NOT seeing how far away the AF100 is from some of the stuff I see from Red and BMCC. Of course there is some quality and latitude enhancements but I am sincerely hoping that there are some great projects in the works besides mine that will be showing the feature length possibilities of the Panny AF100. I told Jan...I really think it is a sleeping giant with respect to proper independent film production. Oh...there WAS a 4K demo on the floor but it was under glass and I couldn't get my hands on it. Kinda small, interesting look but I wasn't taken by it. I am not one to be easily impressed by all this 4k full sensor super 35mm hype though.

A Panasonic 4K? Did you take a pic? If you go back, will you, please?

This is the prototype 4K camera at NAB. Not much info on it but they showed it at CES as well. It's a 1/3 chip camera. The rep said they wanted to see how much intrest it would generate.

What I got out of the booth is that they are working hard on Codec and will bring new products in under those as the pieces fall together.

I spoke to several Panny reps on the floor and they said basically there will be no large sensor camera until 2015. And it will be more akin to a Vericam, pricing, size and all. Any insistance on improving the AF100 was met with a bit of an irritated attitude. I was even told by one rep that "if your looking for anything else, I would suggest finding another company/camera."

The whole vibe on the floor was that Panasonic was a disappointment and was going more toward the broadcast market like JVC. They don't intend to compete in cinema with Cannon and Sony.

Bummer that they won't be bringing new stuff in, but it does make me feel much more confident in my February purchase of a barely used AF100 at $2900 from Adorama. I was a little hesitant since NAB was so close, but I needed it then. The Canon C100 and the Sony that has ND (I get two or three of their cameras confused) would be the only other cameras out there that would work for me and I can't afford them. The new Blackmagic camera is cool, but not what I need. So unless there's some other unexpected camera announcement, I believe I made a very good call in February! :)

The AF-100 and the AF-100a are still good HD cameras. I cant blame them for not coming out with a new MFT camera or a new cinema camera. The market is over saturated now as it is. Enjoy the AF and if you grow out of it you have lots of other choices now. I'm keeping mine. It doesn't make much sense to sell it now.

I read somewhere else that Jan doesn't frequent DVXUSER anymore. I remember her posting when the AF100 first came out.

I guess I'm just wondering why she doesn't post anymore, assuming that's really true? I figured it was because she didn't work for Panasonic anymore, but obviously I was wrong.

There was a thread a little while ago (I forget where or I would link) about there being a corporate personel realignment or something and she was shifted to another role within the company, so she was only rarely able to post now.

Sadly several of my friends that attended NAB (I didn't) all said they encountered the same cold shoulder when asking about a new MFT mount AF100-like camera... the prognosis is that is it the end of that line... That's really too bad because I've become very attached to my AF..

The good news (hopefully) is that, not far away, Black magic Design was showing the pocket camera, an MFT super16-size sensor camera for under a grand.. True, no NDs, and the jury still out on BMDCC in general, but this thing, unlike the CC, has interchangable batteries, HDMI out (so you can use your current EVF) records ProResHQ (I'm not into raw) on SDHC cards (wonder how they did that - Panasonic said that it can't be done)... And, it has an ACTIVE MFT mount so I can use those nice little 12-35 and 35-100 lenses I've accumulated, not to mention the passive Noktons. I pre-ordered one immediately... I've spent more on tires.

If this camera can deliver the feature set that the folks at Black Magic are claiming and they can provide the supply chain with sufficient quantities this July, it will sell like hotcakes, IMHO. It rejuvenates the mft market like nothing else currently out there. I'll likely pre-order one of these puppies soon.
