I may be in over my head.

I searched for this answer, but did not find my solution, so maybe someone can help.
Sorry if this is the wrong part of the forum. I posted in several, sorry if poor etiquette.

I shot HVX 1080 24 footage, I think it shows as 29.97 in Final Cut info.

I also shot with the Canon T2i in 1080 24 mode. I am using Final Cut studio 7, I have down loaded Steamclip. I have made my Canon footage ProRes 422 LT. The converted Canon files are 23.98.

It doesn't look very good, lots of jaggies on the Canon footage. I have obviously jumped
in over my head, but I need to get a handle on this and try to finish.

Can someone offer a better work flow?

thanks,

Download the latest trial version of Cineform and try it.

See if the problems go away.

What is the sharpness setting of the Picture Style you shot with on the T2i?
Everyone seems, myself included, to recommend shooting with Sharpness set to 0(zero).

Hope this helps.

Thanks Ryan,
I will check the sharpness setting.

Do you know if I have oil and water with the different frame rates or is this something I can fix by

reconverting the Canon files?

The HVX may add a 2:3 pullup to store the 24p frames in 29.97 frames. I can't remember all the details of the HVX options. I think it was normal and advanced 24p modes. You might just want to try the next step up of cineform that converts P2 footage as well to true 24p files. If both are cineform(cineform has prores options on the Mac) at 24p. They should cut fine together.
My first guess is that something is wrong with the first conversion.

Do you have WDTV player? I use it to playback my "raw" T2i footage to check it like dailies.
The WDTV plays the footage back like butter. But the cineform converted files look and edit better. I use the medium setting in cineform and the file size is only about 1.5 times the size of the originals. Note: WDTV playes do not support the sound of the T2i footage nor the cineform codec converted footage BTMK.
