So I've made my decision... I'm getting the A1 over the HVX. I just like the picture better, plus it's cheaper! That's a bonus! Now I need to know where to order it. My question is has anyone ever ordered from Abe's? I've heard good and bad stories. Thought maybe I would take my chances and use a credit card, but do credit cards secure purchases from fraudulent companies if they take your money? what other risks do you face when purchasing from these companies?
Hey Spdamf. I have also just recently made that decision also. The HVX would have been great, had a lot of opportunites to rent it out. But what it really came down to is that to have a good setup i would have had to spend twice as much as the A1. And just the workflow for the HVX isn't where i want it to be yet. (i like long takes and lots of footage.)
As to where to get it, i don't know too much about abe's of maine. I just spent a bit more than abe's price at B&H (less than a hundred more), it shipped this morning and i should be recieving it in a couple of days. I do trust them with my credit card, because i have visited their actual store many times. (its like a disney land for filmmakers)
Good luck man, when you get yours we'll make a 'i just got my A1, here's my first footage' thread.
That's one of the problems I had when making the decision. I'm not a disciplined enough shooter to use the HVX, nor do I particularly want to be. Nothing disrupts shooting more than having an AC constantly loading film or in this case, P2 cards.
i chose the A1 even though i like the hvx colors. the things that made me chose the A1 was the price and the 20xlens. i am always shooting outdoors and the A1 fits me well. i got mine from B&H even though the price higher by 90 bucks
I bought an A1 yesterday from B&H with no regrets. Digital Foto Club sells the A1 for $300 less but are not an authorized dealer (which may void your warranty). Some folks said Digital Foto Club is reputable and they bought their A1s there. I just know, based on past experience, that B&H is a trustworthy bunch and why take chances with my warranty if something does go wrong? But, I can understand the appeal of saving $300--you could put it into more gear!
