GH2 I love my GH2 + Driftwood hack!!!

Premiere is a different thing, not using it here but should try experimenting with it on my laptop.

Gary mentioned that "you arent' shooting that flat", but you actually are shooting out that information or it wouldn't be present just by adjusting gamma. If you set your GH2 LCD up like I mentioned in that other thread, you'll see the exact same thing coming out of 5DtoRGB that you had on your LCD. Or near to exacts.

I use 5dtorgb because my computer and premiere edits and plays the clips much easier than the native mts file... Thats reason enough for me to use it... But in order to get the "flat" look you need to choose "cinestyle" before transcoding, right?

Depends on which version you're using: 5DBatch is pretty simplified, now I'm only choosing R709 and Full Range and everything's good from there.

I don't think you need to select cinestyle.

Guys, how does 5D2RBG stack up to Cineform ? I've been tinkering around with Cineform and I love the workflow, First Light is just magic, works perfectly with Premiere and Avid so I'm needing a LOT of convincing to consider using 5D2RGB.

I've got cineform's neoscene (from back when I was shooting on a Gh1). Are there advantages to using this for GH2 footage instead of letting FCP7 do the transcode?

Frankly, you should never let FCP7 do a transcode. It's pretty crappy. Use 5DtoRGB instead, or MPEGStremclip, or Magic Bullet Grinder.

BTW, Cineform is now a free codec. You can get the GoPro Cineform Studio Software for free and load it on your machine.

You more than likely will end up not using that interface (Especially since it only converts the files from GoPro cameras) but since it loads the codec in your machine you can use any one of your video processing converters (like TmpGenc or something) and batch process all of your footage (it's very fast in TmpGenc). The only option you don't have from the full blown Cineform is uncompressed 4:4:4. But, you do have all the low to high HD modes as well as all the Film Scan modes at your fingertips (which is what most folks use anyways....IMO)

Just an FYI

How come my 5dtorgb transcoded files are 2gb when the original mts file is around 90mb? I wish I could edit my clips without all that computer freezing, but even larger files doesnt seem to work. Hope I'm doing it wrong! I'm on the latest free windows version.

Several choices in 5dRGB for smaller files, is your computer 64 bit? If so the Pro_res LT option is nice quality without overkill.

Yes larger is normal, the way the GH2 records information is to compress it...alot. By using one of the choices in 5drgb it saves it in a "less" compressed format, in theroy this will make it easier for your editor to operate swiftly. Some don't need this step because they have very fast computers with a lot of horsepower. What editor do you use?

That makes sense.
Premiere cs4 and 3.5gb ram, editing becomes painfull with the original files! Should I export 8bit instead of 10bit uncompressed?

If I were you I would install the DNxHD codecs (free) on your computer then use the Codec that says Avid DNxHD 35/45/60. With only 3.5 g of ram the last thing you want is 10 bit uncompressed anything. Kinda highjacking the thread...bye
