Hey, So i am really new with my dvx100b and dont have a manual so i ask friends and you guys for help... : )

How do i turn steady shot on and off? Because when i film skateboarding my MK2 lens ring moves around on screen.

Would it be wise to use a different camera to capture my footage to my computer with so i dont put wear and tear on it?

What are the F1-F6 and why are some 30p?

Lol i found that right before you sent it to me, but i still need help with the other questions until i get a pdf reader

If by steady shot u mean the optical stabilizer...its the botton on the underside of the lcd that says "OIS".

Capture camera is wise but not nessesary. I have a cheap $200 capture cam...and many users here use it.

The f1-6 wheel are presets that store whatever scene file info which will give u certain different customs looks. Some of them come preset at 30p. You can change these presets to ANY setting you want. So if u ness with the scene files and create a look you like then u can save it to ANY f1-f6 setting. So u have the ability to have 6 custom scene file/looks. There is a sticky in the technical section of the dvx thread that people have shared there personal setting. Go there and mess with some of them and see what u like.

Get "the dvx book" by Barry Green which is sold on this site. It will tell u everything u need to know.

Well only if its a totally controlled lighting setup it will be the same. However if u are talkin about available light, it will not nessesarily because various factors contribute to color temperature changes (time of day, mixed light sources ect) and light quality /hardness or softness (cloudcover, type and size of diffusion, distance to subject ect). Therefore u are going to have to see how best to control light and white balance a lot. Shooting at the same time of day with the same weather conditions should yield same results (along with regular white balancing).

So i can save my settings for each kind of lighting if i film a lot in certain places?!

Keep in mind that very little of what can be tweaked in the scene file is directly related to what kind of lighting situation you're in. Lighting has to do with exposure and white balance, which are completely independent of the scene setting.

So you can create your own scene files to adjust how saturated your colors are, how much detail is softened, how much contrast you have, and which frame rate you use, among other things.

Yeh I know, but if the lighting isn't the same the otherall look won't be the same...which was what I was trying to get at. So him shooting with the same scene file at the same place at a different time of day,or different weather (cloud one day, sunny the other but same time),or different lighting setup (indoors) isn't gonna get him the "same look". You know that...but I duno if he does.
