Today i have purchased the Chrosziel MatteBox for my DVX. A little Xmas present to myself ;D.

Anywhooo... later on that day i was admiring the full setup mattebox setup when the DVX slipped out of my arms and fell to the ground. :o

Dont worry the Mattebox was ok! But, the DVX took all the beating!!! The Chrosziel back plate ripped out the bottom part on my DVX when it hit the ground!!! :'( I noticed a bulge on the bottom of the DVX when i took of the mattebox. So i unscrewed the 5 screws on the bottom side of the DVX and noticed the damage!

Re: I hate u Chrosziel!

Check out the panasonic parts webpage and see if you can find the correct part or parts and do it yourself. If nothing else is damaged you can proably save a few dollars.

Re: I hate u Chrosziel!

I looked at the bottom.... Looks like the bottom part is one whole piece of the camera shell. I couldnt find any other screws that seperates it.

Re: I hate u Chrosziel!

Ozan,
You did not say if the cam is still working.
First thing I'd do is see what, if anything, on the cam still works. A ripped bottom might be the least of the damage.
If she still shoots and plays and zooms and focuses and all that like before, super. Then start looking for replacement parts ..

Re: I hate u Chrosziel!

The camera works fine... I think!?! Well havent noticed anything yet! i cant use tripod nor mattekit anymore. The bottom is way to weak... dont want another accident

Re: I hate u Chrosziel!

the parts are probably less than you'd think.

send it to a local service center and have them give you a quote.

where are you located?

the service center near boston was rally great.

Re: I hate u Chrosziel!

Ozam that's too bad... :-/

I hate those accidents that happen between gigs, they really make you feel terrible...

But hey, you still have some amazing chroziel gear, and replacing the shell might not be as expensive as it seems, like some other people said. If it's too weak to get in a tripod, well then there isn't really any other choice. All I heard though, is that Panasonic service is way beter in th US than in Canada. I don't know if there's any truth to that, but it's good to be on the safe side...

Re: I hate u Chrosziel!

Don't feel bad or unlucky about the warantee expiring, it would not cover your accidental damage. Do you have insurance that might cover you? I suspect that most of us, including me , do not... :-/

Re: I hate u Chrosziel!

Actually I think most of us do have insurance, and if anyone here doesn't - they should. It's under $20 a month.

Re: I hate u Chrosziel!

If the camera still works but is too filmsy to attach to the Matte box you might consider having a flat base plate fabricated out of aluminum or steel, incude the threaded hole & pin hole for attaching to the head. This base could then be glued, (yes glued using super industrial adhesives, such as those used for aircraft & marine applications) to the bottom of the camera. I would first exhaust other alternatives already suggested. From what I can tell beside replacing the broken parts only adhesives will correct this. I thought I read somewhere the body is a magnesium alloy so this will impact what can & can't be done. The camera should work fine for years if nothing is already loose or broken.

Re: I hate u Chrosziel!

Hi,

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I am afraid that there is likely more unseen damage inside of the camera to PCB boards andother mechanisms. You should take it to a service center and have them estimate the repair cost, it might be more than a new camera.

I had my service guys take a lok at the pictures and while we feel for you, there is no way to tell from the pics how this camera will work. Be prepared to use your insurance.

Best regards,

Jan
