T2i I finally bought my Canon 550D, but what do i do now?

Hey guys, so i've finally bought my Canon 550D, but i've never worked on a Canon platform before so im finding it quite difficult to understand its settings, they are quite different to my other cameras especially the fact that i will be using a DSLR movie mode instead of my normal HDV camcorder to make my short films. Ive been playing around with the settings and this is what i have so far:

Stabilizer: On

Movie rec. size: 1920x1080 25 (i use this since i usually render out to 25p, however, i do not know the benefits of shooting 24 frames per sec in contrast to 25?)
AF mode: Live mode (is this the best?)
AF During: Disable

Shutter/AE Lock button (is this best in terms of having full control to shutter speed, aperture, iso? or is there a better option?)
Movie Exposure: Manual
Grid Display: Off
Metering Timer: 16 sec
Sound recording: on
Highlight tone priority: disable

Exposure Comp: 0
Auto lighting optimisizer: Strong
Picture style: standard

Would anybody recommend their settings instead of mine?
Also, what is the recomended shutter speed for film like images? 50?
Also i tried to move the shutter speed lower than 30 but it doesnt go lower? Is there an option to get it lower or is that its limit?

I've been looking around on forums and reading the manual in order to find this stuff out but i thought that asking people on a thread may be easier so that they could recommend me some of their settings.

Also, i'm looking into buying a 50mm f1.4 lens but im confused about what kind of lens i need to actually look for. When i had to look for my Nikon lenses for my Letus35, i had to look into Nikon Ai manual lenses. Will i be looking for manual or automatic lens for the Canon? And what is the type of lens called (e.g Ai)?

Here is a small video sample of some footage i shot yesterday using the standard lens the camera came with (18-55mm)
