I am now the proud owner of a T3i, but I already might have a problem...

So this summer I spent a lot of money on some beautiful prime lenses, not knowing if I was going to get a panasonic camera or a canon camera. I ended up getting the T3i and I can say I don't regret it at all, I'm already having a blast with it.

I successfully put magic lantern on a 64GB card which was sort of a hassle at first, but I eventually got it. I started playing around with all my lenses and all of magic lanterns features (which are great I might add).

I have a few Nikkor lenses and also the K1-5 macro tube set, so wanting to check out what I could do with this, I put the K1 ring on a Nikkor 24mm lens, then attached it to the proper adapter, then threw it on the camera.

Holy smokes, in seconds I was taking beautiful macro video of my cat, but I wanted to try the tubes on my 35mm Nikkor, this is where I ran into a slight problem.

Upon pressing the lens release button and turning the lens to take it out, it seems to be caught on something, the lens rotates like it should to come out, but it just simply wont come off of the camera. I haven't tried too many things to take it off because I don't want to screw it up even worse. The most I've done is taken the lens off of the tube and adapter, but that didn't help, the adapter and tube are still not being released from the camera. For now I just put the 24mm back on so insides weren't exposed, but I'm not exactly sure how I should go about getting this thing off my camera.

I've never read anything advising against using macro tubes and adapters so I didn't think it would be an issue. Anyone have any experience in this area?

Thanks all.

I've had some lens adapters that over-rotate on the mount: they lost the pin that stops them at the position where you can extract the lens from the camera; if that's the problem you have, you have to gently rotate until you find the position that will allow effortless extraction.

After reading that I picked the camera back up and tried again because that seems like a very plausible cause, however I don't think that is the case. I rotated it while gently tugging on the lens the whole time, so it would release at the right spot, but it refuses to come out. It generally takes 90 degrees to release a lens right? It seems as though it is only rotating about 45 degrees before abruptly stopping for no apparent reason. I really hope I get this figured out and don't just end up with a $700 24mm macro camera.

I once put a tube on My camera and NEVER again, same goes for filters in front of My lenses..... Truth is they simply get stuck by even slightly over tightening them and it's almost impossible to take off. I suggest if you ever take those tubes off of your camera to never put them on there again and just buy a proper macro lens.

So how did you get yours off? And that sucks, I shot some really cool stuff with the macro tube :/

Actually now that I think of it I don't think that's the problem. The tube is between the lens and adapter, so the tube isn't even in contact with the camera body. So how could it be the tube that is causing the problem? It seems to me that it should be the adapters problem, but it's brand new, just used for the first time, so I don't see how that could be the problem either...

I must say I haven't had any issues with my macro tubes, or with my several cheap adapters, except for what I noted above. **** happens, and sometimes it costs you $$$$, but overreacting may also cost you $$$$.

I just really have no clue what I should do with my camera, I've tried everything that I'm comfortable with doing to it. Looks like I'm going to have to start shooting video exclusively with a 24mm macro....

I really hope this doesn't come off snide, but you're pressing the release button on the side of the canon mount on the T3i body right?

I let a friend who just bought a t3i borrow an m42 lens and adapter, he called me saying he got the lens off, but couldnt put the rear cap back on.

It took me a few second to realize he had unscrewed the lens from the adapter, and not the adapter from the body, not knowing to hit that release.

I know, it was hard to phrase that, but still is an issue.

You're also the guy with a new camera and some macro tubes stuck on the front, so at this point it was worth typing.

Since it's just an extension tube, you should be able to undo the lens from the tube, and then you can see what's still catching on the lens mount.

Yes, I have removed the lens from the tube, but I'm really struggling finding out exactly what is preventing it from coming off, I don't see any issues at all. I am completely clueless on what could be wrong...

Perhaps try a small independant camera store to get help if one is nearby? Or help from someone who has experience with Nikon lenses on Canons?

I GOT IT OFF!!!! After sitting down and spending like a half hour straight trying to get it off, I finally did it. I managed to separate the tube from the adapter, and from there, the adapter had no issue coming off.

I think it has something to do with the adapter, because now that I've tried using just the adapter, it seems a little clunky every time I try to take it off, always gets a little hung up. It still works however, so I guess I'm just going to have to be careful.
