I am becoming a citizen!

USLatin

Panamaniac
Finally, after being here for 12 1/2 years I decided it was time to settle down and make my love for this great country official!

I could have done it a long time ago but I wanted it to be more of a genuine thing... well by that standard I could have become a citizen about 8 years ago... but it was a lot of money too...

:love4:

P.S.: You can't get rid of me now... lol

Congratulations & Welcome! Too bad it wasn't a little sooner so you could vote in the upcoming elections.

You know... I thought I was gonna make it... but just missed it. :furious3:
Well it was my fault. :)

Thanks!

I appreciate this. There's been a lot of malaise in America the past few years, glad to hear that there's some excitement and passion out there. Thanks for becoming an American. Welcome aboard.

go back to where you came from... it's probably better there then it is here right now, lol.....

Congrats man! Things should get better here in a few years! :)

Will you be changing your name to US or LatinUS ?

Mods , Luis I can post again but still cant start a thread.

CONGRATULATIONS my fellow American- or soon to be. The U.S. hasn't exactly been admired the last seven years, or so, so it's nice to hear when someone still believes in what the country is all about.

People coming here and merging their part of the world with ours is exactly what this country is about.

Welcome. And don't ever let anybody tell you that you aren't an American.

Great words, Jim. One facet that I'm particularly fond of, and my waist size would unfortunately prove my point, is the assortment of ethnic foods we have. Any decent size town has an array of different foods. i live in Toledo, OH (not even a big city) and we have all kinds of festivals. Polish, German, Italian, Greek, Mexican... well, the list goes on and on. I'm not trying to trivialize things but I think I have a valid point.

Yes you do have a valid point (as my pant size would corroborate). I don't miss many things about living in NYC, but the variety of food is one. Colorado has great Mexican food, but we are bombarded with chains and franchises. I miss mom and pop immigrant restaurants.

Welcome. I can't say anything more than what Brian said, but just reiterate that I too appreciate this sort of enthusiasm. This country has given me so much and it is nice to see others wanting to suckle at the teat of lady liberty...err...

You know guys... my great grand father got on a boat from Italy when Musolini nearly ruined the country on WWII. He wanted the same thing that the very people that started this country came here for. When the pilgrim fathers got on the Mayflower they wanted just that... to get the hell away from a country where they weren't allowed to be who they were, hence the "Land of the Free". Unfortunately when they got to Ellis island they had closed immigration, so like several million others we ended up in Argentina. My grandpa was 3 years old. Now, like 60 years later, we fulfilled his dream. Getting a little emotional here...

It sure is, but you can't forget that it is also about wanting to keep it the best gosh darn country on the planet!

"Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do your your country." or something like that :)

Now, don't get me wrong, Argentina is kick ass... hot girls, amazing food, breathtaking landscape... no earthquakes or hurricanes either hehe. If you have enough money so that you are not affected by the fact that the economy sucks ass... and if you can live with the fact that cops are often more scary than civilians. If you can live with a much higher level of corruption... It was so weird when I first moved and I saw the first (Florida) sheriff... I felt safe! lol... I didn't question whether that guy was going to force me to bribe him. Of course there is corruption everywhere... but it here at least isn't as rampant and far reaching as it is in Latin America.

HAHAHA... trust me bro, that is FAR from the truth! When **** hits the fan in Argentina you don't get splattered accross the face... it is more like a full truck of "organic fertilizer" gets dumped on your head. lol

Will you be changing your name to US or LatinUS?

I really like it when people call me US here on the forum. Maybe I can get it changed to that Mods? Certainly not Latin US, I put that the other way around on purpose when I originally came up with it. I was 17 1/2 when I moved, so I did my senior year of HS here... back in Arg the preppy ass-wipes in my school treated me like crap... and when I moved over I felt like I was in a movie, wearing jeans to school, lockers... I was SO glad to be out of that private school. I had a blast and hoped it would never end. I many ways it never did!

What do you guys say? Should I change my name? I would really like it if I could get called "US" :D

P.S.: :love4:

An American won the Nobel Prize for physics a few days ago, Yoichiro Nambu of the University of Chicago. He's a naturalized US Citizen. New immigrants are our strength.

We moved because the company my dad was working for asked us to move. They gave my dad a promotion and said they could move the job to either Sao Paulo (Brazil), NYC or Florida... we didn't want to move to Brazil... no way, plus the US?!? Heck yea... so since we didn't really know much we though it was either the snow or the beach... too bad we didn't realize it is go darn hot in FL :)

I was just so exited... why? Cause of us! Cause of all of those Americana movies! I remember watching so many movies and falling in love with the US all the way since I can remember...
