Proud new owner of an A1!

Just got my A1, brand new in box, from Bel Air camera in Westwood CA. Camera new in box, with 5 year warranty for about $4250 out the door.

So far, I have not rolled any tape, but just messed around with settings etc... to suite my likings.

For current owners: What are your favorite settings so far for a Cine-like appearance? Also, how do we swap scene setting files via-internet?

I am really excited and if there are any requests/questions about the camera, I would be more than happy to oblige, as I am sure all the other owners on here are too.

Off to shoot!

Scene file stuff is in my thread, but thats a good point, I need to stick my card into a card reader nd see what the file looks like. Maybe they can be just dumped easily over the net.

They can be downloaded from the net, copied to an SD card and uploaded to the camera. We're working on setting up a custom preset library with sample scenes at xlcinema.

I've had mine for 8 days. I love the images!!! I went over to dvinfo.net and got a document that had several of the cine settings for the H1 and then converted them into A1 format. Overall I'm very pleased. There are a few things I'm not happy with ... like the xlr switch being in the menu (I still can't figure out how to get a signal without having the audio gain on auto) and the inability to record one channel from the built in mic and the other from an XLR source. Also, I wish I could get a little more macro with some images.

That said, the images are amazing. I shot a one minute short last week and an eight minute one today. Congrats to all of us who own these amazing cameras. Now it's time to make the magic happen!!!

Connected to HD TV. WOW.

Connected to HD TV. WOW.

Just connected the A1 to a Sony projection HD TV and all I can say is WOW. Stunning.

Also, whoever was worried about low-light performance needs not to worry. Looks great.

I plan on doing several tests this week when I get some time such as an ISO speed comparison with a light meter to determine roughly what its equivalent is to film and also Light a scene with several stops differences within to determine rough Latitude of the camera and then hopefully post.

BTW, is there any way to turn overall gain, not color gain, below +0? I thought I saw somebody say they were shooting at a negative gain in an earlier thread. Any insight on how to do this?

The grain/noise structure looks great too. So far the ONLY downside i see is that when you use the focus zoom assist feature, the only thing that warns you is the tiny yellow FOCUS text. I really liked how the HVX had a frame in frame look, so you couldnt easily forget about it.

Also, the screen was a little small for my taste at first, especially compared to an HVX/DVX, but its positioning and quality I love, so I am getting used to it.

Stoked is the only word to describe how amped I am on this thing.

Cant wait to start swapping scene files. Gonna go check out that XL forum place and see what they got going on over there.

There is a way to set the gain to -3. It's in the gain settings menu. You can customize what gain is on each of your three settings I had mine at -3, 3, 6 ... now I have them at 0,3,6.

Keegs, you might find the peaking feature to be all that's needed to discern focus. The magnification helps too, but doesn't work when actually recording.

Soon. As soon as I quite drooling over the quality on the playback on this TV.

I am gonna try to get some nice outdoor stuff tomorrow and I will upload it. Probably host it on my .mac acount

Ill let you guys know!

P.S. Anyone have any good recomendations on a not so expensive HD plasma/lcd in the 19-28" range? I might end up getting the Apple 30 studio, but if not, I will definately want a good HD screen.

What about those really sick color correct HD monitors (fiield monitors I think they are called?) that are really deep in length?

Sorry if I am a noob in the HD market.
