I just purchased and collected my HVX 202 today and I must say....What a beast! It looked so much bigger & better in real life than in the pictures. And when I held it in my hand...WOW! Metal construction & nice weight! It felt like a real pro camera. Not a plastic consumer cam! It was much more than I had expected! I tried some 32 & 50fps handheld moves and it looked excellent. The weight really helps steady things out when operating handheld.
I have shot quite a few tv commercials on the DVX102A, which is a great camera for shooting at 25p but It still feels like a consumer cam. I actually use a 6 x 6 matte box on the DVX to make it feel and look bit more Pro and also for adding extra weight to help when operating on a good fluid head. I have been working with 35mm motion picture camera's for the past 13 years - so you know where I'm coming from!
Im still blown away that the HVX can shoot up to 50fps 720p/25p and produces great looking images- especially with the M2.
$5000 for this technology is a bargain!
P2 card system is fine if your a film convert like me as we work with 3 x 400' or 1000' Mags with 35mm film. 4Gig card is like a 400ft roll of 35mm film and a 8Gig card - 1000' 35mm film. If I work with 3 P2 cards and have my 2nd AC downloading P2 footage to H.Disk insted of loading film stock in mags, I should have a pretty efficient workflow. I love it !
The menu functions were not too difficult to learn - similar to DVX . The only dissapointment was the LCD screen. I know some of you said it was bad but I didnt think it was that bad! I played back some stuff I shot on the HVX on my $500 PV-Gs250 and it looked way better on the Gs LCD. I'm definately getting a Marshall soon. As for everything else on this camera - It rocks!
Im really glad that I invested in this camera system....It was worth every dollar!
Putting in my order for the M2 (Cine PL mount) tommorrow.
Thanks to everyone in the HVX community for great support and feedback.
