HVX200P Modular Disassembly (DIY Photos) To Be Cont..

DJDecay: Can you contact me via mail: hdxx [at] o2 [dot] pl? It looks like there is no PM feature.

Anyway... I'm analyzing HVX hardware and software possibly for firmware hacking (since it's running linux). Just think about possibilities we have - it has 2 PCMCIA/PC card slots! We can connect WLAN card for offloading files via network or use SATA adapter to connect HDD to camcorder and use it instead of expensive P2 cards. ;)

At this stage of research, I'm almost sure I able to switch camcorder's region (NTSC<->PAL). I need Service Manual in PDF format it's not possible to download it from scribd.com without subscription.

BTW. If someone has PC-EVR software or access to Panasonic Global Service website please contact me as well.

Awesome post. I wish I had seen this a month ago when I felt the urge to take apart my HVX. I went ahead and did so, and put a few photos up on flickr.

My goal was to remove the lens and replace it with a Nikon 50mm macro. It turns out that there are three lens elements. The front element comes off easily. The middle element can be removed but only after a pretty thorough disassembly (as above). The deepest lens element is a part of a compact bundle that includes the sensor. It controls the focus and optical image stabilization. Trying to crack that last element open was beyond my amateur status, so I didn't try. I did achieve my goal however. Removing the middle element (which administers the zoom) allows the camera to do very close photography. I have the camera serving as a DIY telecine, doing 1080 transfers from 16mm and super 8 film.

The good news in disassembling the camera is that most of the screws are all the same standard size, so as long as you remember what goes where and in what order, it's not too complicated to put it back together. If there's interest, I can post more photos to illustrate a step by step fashion how to strip the camera down to its chassis.

Which I in no way encourage and would do so only for informational purposes.
