HVX200a or HVX205a ?

I'm only guessing but I'd bet the farm the 205a is the PAL version of the 200a.

PAL-Version in Europe is HVX 201A .....

Said to be 1000 Euro cheaper than HVX 200 (list price) ....

Ah that second link says it records 1080p60... doubt it.

Aus/NZ hvx are HVX202EN... so maybe the A model will be HVX205EN? or HVX202AN? who knows.. going to see panasonic nz monday.. will ask.

Dear ZouLou,

I bought the HVX-205A from a retailer. I'm not sure if it is an authroized retailer, but I check to see if they were legit and they were. The box it came in had Panasonic AGHVX-205A printed on the sides and the top. The menu settings are for English and Japanise. The retailer had it advertised on there web site as HVX-200A/HVX-205A camcorder for sale. They really didn't specify the difference. I saved about a $1,299.95. instead of buying the HVX-200 with a P2 Card from a business like B&H Photo Video. I recieved the HVX-200A maunal within the camera package.

I also recieved the following:
• Camcorder Battery
• AC Adapter and Battery Charger
• Accessory Microphone Holder
• Component Video Cable
• 3 x RCA to BNC Adapter Ends
• Remote Control
• Shoulder Strap
• CD-ROM with PCMCIA Driver for Mac/PC and P2 Viewer
• 1 Year Warranty

I also purchased an extended warranty for my camera. The warranty is through a third party authorized camera repair company.

I did not buy any P2 Cards seperate from the camera as of yet. Some of my production partners already have them and a firestore, so I can use them at anytime I would like. So far we have used the firestore and a set of P2 cards five times and I have not had any problems. We even used the Red Rock 35MM Adapter and Lenses with the camera. The pictures and shots are fantasitc.

From my research I can say, "HVX-205A is the Japanese version of the North American version of the HVX-200A, but if you buy it from a legit business who gives a 1 year warranty with an authorized camera repair buisness. Your in safe hands as long as you buy an extended warranty as I did, plus you will save up to $1,299.95 on the camera alone. Mine was $3,700.00 with the extended warranty and shipping. You can buy the HVX-200A at an Authorized reseller such as, B&H Photo Video for $4,999.95 with a 16 G P2 Card included. I am planning to buy a 16 G P2 Card, which is $829.95 (B&H Photo Video rate) I will still save about $470.00. It is well worth the buy and savings. I do know we want to add a second camera and possibly a third within the year, so we will be looking at purchasing those additions the same way. We are also sending myself and another one of our partners to a bunch of training classes to get certified as a Panasonic Autorized Repair Technician, so we will not have to purchase a warranty and repair the cameras ourselves." Our goal is to purchase more cameras for the rental side of our production company and also do camera repairs in-house and as a service for other panasonic owners."

Does anyone know if the HVX200a and HVX205a are the same camcorder or not?
I've just found 2 links about the HVX205a:

Sorry to bump an old thread, but the only difference in the 205A is that it has the addition of Japanese menu language? Or is it only a Japanese menu? I see some good deals on the camera, and if it is useable in English I wouldn't mind at all.

Though if it's Japanese-only then maybe that would kick my butt into finally learning the language.

I think it has switchable menus, japanese/english. Again, the difference is going to be included accessories ($1,000 worth of free stuff with the American version) and where your warranty work will be performed (america or Japan) and who you're buying it from (an established authorized dealer, or a gray marketer). So the price difference would have to be significant enough to overcome those elements.

Yep, it's the japanese version and definitely has switchable menus. Bought mine while I lived in Japan and works like a charm :)

Thanks Barry and Simon!

I'll definitely keep this in mind when I see an awesome deal online. At least I know that if I decide to go the super cheap route, I won't be frazzled by kanji and katakana.

The original reason I asked is that I saw this thingy here....

I'm very sure this is grey market and I might not have a manufacturer's warranty... but with a decent feedback rating, can it still be too good to be true?

Received mine today from B N H and everything is just perfect !! Well except mine didn't include an english manual (book print), but had a copy on the install disc. I bought the extended warranty for about 130 bucks or so and they told me on the phone that the company (mack) will pretty much replace everything if needed.

B N H offers a 90 day on it.

Simon can I switch between PAL & NTSC ?

Oh, I haven't purchased yet. Though anybody who has purchased through the seller should chime in. Thanks!

Keep in mind that the US camera comes with a P2 Card and Barry Green's HPX/HVX Book and a Panasonic Warranty. All gray product does have a warranty but it is in the country of their origin. The model for the US is AG-HVX200APJ. Ask your vendor if it comes with the above accessories, if they dance around the issue, then move on to an authorized vendor.

The most difficult time to find out that you have a gray product is when you need help.

Best,

Jan

Sorry for another bump, but what plug was it that the charger had, North American Standard? U.K 3-prong?
