HVX200A or HPX-170

Got to love the new cams shipping already. I'd like to see the difference myself so seeing footage would be great. Also, I do think having a better LCD would be prudent for one simple reason... to keep us all from eternally BITCHING about the low quality LCD. Really the only thing I don't like about the cam after 2 years and counting. The 170 will be in immediate future... sweet.

I'm hittin' Spec-Comm up this Wednesday, hopefully, for an HVX200A. Hopin' for it!

I'll be able to do some straight-on comparisons with the 200 and 200A once I receive my unit. Woohoo.

It's still better than the system Canon and Nikon use for their DSLRS. The Nikon D70 is better than the D40 but not as good as the D60. Weird. Or how Canon went from D30 to D20 on down and is now going from 20D on up.
Oh don't get me going on Canon: XL, XH, H1, A1, G1 and some new letter combos just released. I wish the world would have stopped with the PD 170... well sometimes.

Things are still a little wishy-washy.

Sorry.

Am still in negotiation, Will have more news later this summer. Target is around the same as the HVX200/A. We found a couple of things yesterday in the menus, first time we were allowed access, that look very interesting and while I hate to be a "tease" I do want to carry the excitement about this camera. There are so many of your ideas in this camera. And I only wish that I got everything I asked for.

Stay tuned,

Jan

180* flip option? ;)

Do we know yet if the HVX200a/HPX170 will use the same batteries as HVX/DVX? Ie, will my DVX-User batteries work with those cameras?

As far as I know - yes they will.
There was no mention of a battery form factor change, and it would be suprising going from a 200 to a 200a to change the battery.

Does the smaller lens on the 170 suggest that it will have less image quality than an hvx? I vaguely sense that it should.

Not necessarily.
The smaller lens barrel might suggest higher distortions when wide and lower light when tele, but this has to be compare to the original 200 lens.
What we know so far this lens is wider (about 20% more) than the later one.

The 170's lens also represents a couple of years of technological advancement. It remains to be seen how it performs next to the 200, but I'd be surprised if it wasn't just as good. Being wider does mean you'll have a little less telephoto reach though.

Got a free sixteen gigger with my 200A. I'd suspect a free 16gb or at least 8gb with the unit?? Maybe even two 8gbs. I'd take that over one 16gb.

Does the HVX200A also have the LCD Image Flip feature or is that only with the HPX170?

I think the 200A is the same in all ways except internal CCD imaging and electronics.
Nothing has changed on the outside or new features except improved low light, less noise and smear.
