I know a few places in the states have already gotten the HVX200a's in stock but does anyone have any idea when Canadian dealers will be receiving them? I've been calling around and nobody seems to know and I'm needing to pick one up asap. Thanks.

Hello Lando. I'm not sure because we don't get the Canadian shipping schedule but we have shipped a good bit of the HVX200A cameras to Canadian customers in the past week. We should be able to help you out.

Best regards,

Andrew Hoffman

Thanks for the quick response, you've always been the first to answer my questions and its greatly appreciated. I would happily buy through you guys if it weren't for the duty I would get hammered with at the border. I haven't been able to find out exactly what it would work out to but I'd imagine it's a fair chunk of change.

Hi Lando,
I live in Vancouver, recently bought my HVX from Spec-Comm. Great place to buy from. There is NO duty on video cameras.... just the tax (pst, gst, which you would have to pay anyway). Plus buying from Spec-Comm you get the 16 GB P2card , Barry's book, and awesome service. Hard to beat!

Dave5 thanks for that! I'm in Vancouver too and I've just spent the last 4 hours online trying to figure out duty rates for this and haven't had any luck so you just made my day! I've been looking around Canada non stop as I just figured I'd get roasted with duty and It would end up being more expensive even with the free P2 card. I guess the only downside is the lack of warranty but it seems like the number of warranty issues are next to none, and I would assume I could ship it back to Spec-Comm in the slight chance any do arise? (I would imagine all shipping charges would be left to me).

Iando,

There is no duty on photography and video equipment since many years, just be sure the item is not ship by UPS (the brown truck), they will charge you a very high broker fees and they do nothing at all. Use USPS (Postal Service) or Purolator (affiliated with Canada Post) is the way to go. (about $ 8 broker fees vs UPS robbery)

Just to reiterate what everyone is saying, I ordered mine on a Wednesday and got it that Friday. It was ground shipping. No duty. Order and enjoy!

This is not accurate. UPS ground shipping has high broker fees. But it's not the case with most of UPS's International Express shippings. In those cases, broker fees are included. You only have to pay the taxes and about a 0.2 % additional fee.

Yes, if you use International Express shipping (air) I think everything is included, but I don't like to encourage company who charge high brokerage fees as UPS. Ask to thekreative what He think about UPS brokerage fees. ($80 item...$40 buck service...with USPS/Canada Post, it's $7... Hum !)

I know that UPS ground shipping has high broker fees.

I just wanted to point out that not every shipping options will have broker fees.

You just have to choose the proper one. And in some cases, it is cheaper than USPS.

some of the shipping companys include the brokerage fee in with the next day air. it is alittle more $$ but can be cheeper if you are getting hit with a $40 brokerage fee. check it out.

I'm from canada and payed 550$!! duty for my HVX about a week ago. i went with usps, and canada post. so whoever said that video cameras don't get slammed you are wrong.

I called BIS (border information services) today and asked about the duty charges just to be sure and was told there is no duty on Cameras and Camera equipment. I just ordered my hvx200a and if I end up getting charged duty I'll definitely be disputing it.

You sure it was not for the PST and GST. If not, you should really ask for a refund because there is a mistake in your case.

Cant you get the camera delivered to an address closer to Vancouver like Seattle and pick it up ? Wouldn't that avoid the taxes and still remain completely legal and cheaper?

Legal, no, but if you pass without being catch, good for you. If they catch you, ouch ! They seize your car and you have to pay big money to recover your camera and the car...I don't think it's worth it, up to you.

I thought you were aloud to bring back up to 10 000$ worth of stuff. When I got back from New York I was ready to pay taxes and they asked me how much my stuff was worth and I told them around 6000$ and they didn't say anything about it.
