HVX200A and HMC150 on same shoot?

I'm trying to advise on a project and our two picture techs each have a camera. One has the HMC, the other HVX, and I'd like to determine if we can shoot with both and easily make it work in post. Probably using FCP.

Is converting from AVCHD to DVCPRO part of the normal workflow when using the HMC150 and, if so, will it then be compatible with the DVCPRO HD footage shot on and HVX?

Thank you!

If it's the HVX200a, then it's the same imaging sensor. As long as the scene file settings are similar, then I wouldn't think it would be an issue. Folks have reported seeing no difference between footage shot with the HMC150 and HPX170. The HVX200a isn't too far different from the HPX (tape mechanism aside).

As for converting AVCHD to DVCPro, I believe FCP requires you to transcode AVCHD to ProRes. The old AVCHD to DVCPro converter floating around (it's no longer on Panasonic's website) didn't do that great I job, I think.

I've mixed those formats before - I just shot 'em all over to prores for a happy, fast timeline. MPEG Streamclip will convert your DVCpro footage to ProRes while you have lunch.

Thank you for your response. Can you be more specific about what you mean by "shot 'em?"

A.
