I just got a hvx202EN and am tryng to capture footage to FCP but nothing is showing up. its not even coming up as a portable disk? Can anyone help me

I am trying to import from the P2 but Im having no luck with either the p2 or tape and its really stressing me out

Have you installed the p2 driver software?

Are you running FCP 5.0.4 or later?

Do you sequence settings exactly match your capture settings in the cam?

Are you doing log and capture using a non controllable device?

press that mode button once, then hold it for three seconds... it should switch to connect mode...

I have done everything except the driver software. Is there supposed to be a CD with the camera? can I get the driver from the net? I am using fcp 5.0.4

when I switch the camera to pc mode I get "1394 DEVICE DISCONNECT" on the veiw finder regardless if the fire wire cable is connected or disconnected. Its as if the mac isnt even reading that there is a connection to a 1394 device

Am I doing something wrong? I have never had this trouble with other cameras.

Turn off HVX, connect fire wire, then turn on HVH.
Then go to (APPLE-ABOUT THIS MAC)... (MORE INFO) and see if the mac recognizes the HVX on the firewire bus... That will tell you if the mac sees it or if you have a firewire connection problem.

I tried all of the above, and still no luck. I did not get a cd with the camera, but downloaded a driver from the japanese panasonic site (not sure if it was the right one) ...this is insane.

Barry, I hear that you are coming to Australia soon. When will you be in Sydney?

what else can I do?

Sydney is July 9th, I believe.

I don't know what else to tell you to try. Are you sure your firewire port is working? If you installed the drivers, and you set the menu to "1394 Device", and you went into PC/DUB mode, then it should show up on your Mac desktop.

I'm having the exact same problem. Not mounting to G5 desktop.

I have:

Downloaded and installed the P2 driver
Restar computer
Connected 1394 cable
Selected 1394 device from "Other Options"
Switched to "P2" mode (Effectively switching to PC/DUB mode)
Held down button for 2,3,4,5 seconds

Only get "1394 device disconnect"

Very frustrating. I've tranfered all other files in the past using FS-100 & Mac laptop. Neither of those are options for me today.

Any ideas out there?

Have either of you done the diagnostic suggested a couple of posts ago?

"Turn off HVX, connect fire wire, then turn on HVH.
Then go to (APPLE-ABOUT THIS MAC)... (MORE INFO) and see if the mac recognizes the HVX on the firewire bus... That will tell you if the mac sees it or if you have a firewire connection problem."

Just did that ... I know the firewire port(s) function properly on the Mac (sisnce I have successfully used them with other devises). However, the HVX is not recognized when it is connected.

Odd.

If the cam is not showing up and other devices are, then all that is left is the HVX200 FW port.

How old is the cam?

The other thing is to try this on another Mac?

Do you have access to one?

Don't know where "in your basement" is, but are you state side?

Cam is about 6-8 months old. FW port used maybe - *maybe* 3 or 4 times.
Tried it on a Macbook Pro - same issue
My basement is NYC :)

Any further thoughts? Can my HVX have a fried FW port? Seems kinda unlikely that it would be something that would happen randomly in-the-field (I'm extremely anal when it comes to care / protecting my equipment).
