HVX200 Newby

Received my 200 from B&H yesterday. Spend last night reading parts of the manual. Shot my first test stuff today on tape -- 480 60i. Questions:

1. I set the camera to turn auto focus off (Auto SW > AF > Off). Yet the "A" still appears on the screen when I'm in manual focus mode. Isn't the "A" supposed to disappear?

2. Also, Focus Assist isn't functioning. Perhaps this is used only in a P2 HD mode. Can someone confirm?

3. Regarding Scene Files. I like setting #3 - Scene Spark (factory setting). Are there additional setting that can be downloaded?

I'm sure this Newby will be back later with more questions...especially about "Scene Files". Thanks for your input. Great little camera. By the way, Barry's book came with the camera. Nicely done, Barry.

1. I don't know, because my camera is not in front of me, but surely someone else can help.

2. Only works in P2 HD - correct.

3. If you have Barry's book, you have access to A LOT of scene files on that CD in the back cover. You need an SD card to load new settings though.

1. You need to switch the actual Manual/Auto switch that is up on the lens to Manual. The Auto SW menu just turns on and off what is on the "AUTO" setting I think. Dont really know as my camera just lives in the manual mode for the most part.

Jeff, in addition to the Auto SW menu, I switched the A/M switch beside the lens to Manual. But the "A" is still on my LCD screen. I have manual focus capability, but the A is present. Seems odd to me.

I'm still looking for an answer to the question above. I turned off auto focus in the menu setting (Auto SW > AV > Off) and also flipped the A/W switch beside the lense to M. Isn't the A supposed to disappear from the LCD?

You can enter them manually also. But what a pain. Get yourself a 1gb SD and then you can fill it with rubbish scene files forever.

You need to flip the Auto/manu switch right below your lcd display.

It is on the left side near the back end of your camera.

The Auto/Manual switch below the LCD also controls iris. Sometimes I like to use Auto Iris for run & gun shooting...but want focus control. So what's the purpose of the switch besides the lens? It gives me manual focus when I want it. But seeing the A on the LCD makes me think I'm in Auto Focus. Is this something I need to get used to...double checking to make sure I'm in AutoFocus or not...instead of relying on the LCD. I'm okay with that as long as I understand what's going on.

The "A" you are seeing is for auto focus, auto white balance, auto iris, and auto gain if necessary. If you want to shoot in all manual flip the switch in the picture above to manual and you will have manual control of everything. If it is on auto you can change the settings of what auto is. Menu: Auto SW: Change what you want in your auto setting.

I personally like to always shoot in manual, but as you mentioned above, you like to use the auto iris while having control of the focus and everything. This is possible in manual.

To the right of the iris wheel there is a black button that has "IRIS" next to it. This allows you to activate auto iris while in full manual mode.

You know where the auto/manual/ and infinity focus switch is for focus control.

And if you want to use auto white balance set your white balance switch to "PRST" which, unless changed, is the factory preset which is auto white balance.

I don't suggest changing the AUTO SW settings unless you know that you will never or always use one of it settings.

Hope this clears some stuff up.
