Hello, I am considering purchasing an hvx200 and upgrading from the dvx100b. At the time I am very broke and can just barely afford the hvx200/16gb p2 card. I cannot upgrade to final cut studio 2( i have final cut studio 1) and i cannot afford to buy a firestore or p2 store.
I am curious as to the different capturing options. I understand it is much easier to capture the footage directly from a p2 store. I am also aware of ''the glitch''. Can I use a simple firewire cable to transfer the footage from the hvx200 directly to my G5? Would it be the same process as capturing minidv footage? Does the glitch occur when capturing via firewire like this? What do you all suggest?
thankyou!

Yes you can use a firewire cable to transfer the footage right from the HVX. When working with other editing programs it's a simple file transfer, but when working with FCP it is more similar to capturing miniDV, in that you set in & out points and then "capture" the footage.

Yes the glitch can happen, and the best remedy appears to be to keep the card write-protected before connecting to the Mac.

Make sure you have at least version 5.1.2, preferably 5.1.4.
