HVX200 Camera Package Rates

Justyn,

Unfortunately probably not for another 6 months...I want to get it all at once with support gear so I'm not jurry rigging my package. Monitors, Matteboxes, etc...all add up, I'm assuming a 10K investment when it is all said and done. In the mean time I'll just keep relying on my DVX to bring in the income. BUT I see the demand for the HVX seriously picking up in 6 months once the word gets out to clients they will start demanding it and will be accustomed to the workflow by then...in my opinion.

Man when you find a way to get the camera, mattebox, filters, rails, monitors, sticks, head and recording media for 10,000 please let me know. I figure my package cost is going to be between 15K to 20K. Based on that a 100K varicam package rents for @ 1250 a day so I should get at least 250 a day for my camera package.

Gopher,

What are you looking to pick up? I think my package will be around 12k as I already have the tripod and monitor. I think I'll have to search around for deals but shouldn't be too hard to get in for that.

Our rental rule is 20 rentals to recoup the capex first cost. $5k camera = $250 / day. Like everyone else we deep discount to as low as a three-day week against six or one-day weekend against two-and-a-half at full fare (no discount shown per line item).

Peripherals are often included within a larger package to impossibly obscure the rack rates in a given proposal. I assume everyone will charge P2 as a pure rental item at up to 50 rentals against first cost because they have no discernable operational / depreciable life. Three years is a good obsolescence tool though.

Labor rates are sometimes negotiated to a lower tier during the proposal period, however, we never discount labor. Ever.

I already have sticks, heads, and batteries...I need camera, P2 (Probably 2-4gig), & monitor (2k-3k!!!). I may need to get a laptop as well but as funny as it sounds that would be cheap compared to everything else. Storage will be on a per-job basis and the client will pay for that like they would for tapestock.

As far as Mattebox is concerned. I'm currently looking for one that will work with both my DVX & an HVX. Do any lucky current HVX owners have any matteboxes they have tested it with? Although I like the Chroisels, the Petroff boxes are really nice too, I don't know if I can really justify 2 grand for just the mattebox. CaVision may be the way to go. I know they have a hard matte 16:9 that suppose to work with the HVX but no test results yet...

This is a good way to figure out rates! Way to go...

The P2 rental is intesting. What do you guys think? Incorporate into camera rental price or charge seperate? ie 6k camera @ 20 rentals= $ OR 10k camera (with P2 cards) @ 20 rentals= $

You'd may have a hard time convincing a client to fork over $500 a day with the latter equation...

Happy Shooting!

how much was DVX when it came out?

anyone know the historical price changes for DVX? maybe that can help to see the value of HVX down the line...

Em ...... look if you're having a hard time with all the gear piling up financially, then in my view a 2grand matte box for the hvx should not even enter your head, it already has a very good little box on it and just make some some flags yourself that stick to it when you need them, anyone can make a decent looking matte box in an hour in their garage - obvioulsy not talking about the little add on features some have but basically they're supposed to shield the lens... think primitive creatively and put the 2 grand into something else like sweet microphones to really add to the value of your hvx footage

As far as rental rates? Or purchase price?

The very first DVX was initially announced at $3495, but was never sold at that price; currency exchanges and whatnot changed it such that the first official release was at $3795.

The 100A was announced at $3995.

The 100B was announced at $3995.

That was a typo...what I meant was I CAN'T really justify a 2K mattebox for a 6K camera...I agree with you to a certain degree about rigging something up to take out flares if nessecary, especially on an indie budget...BUT if you are renting out a professional camera package and a client sees foamcare taped all over the lens shade it looks a little cheesy. Unfortunately the looks do sell sometimes...
